I'm guessing your shelter pulled several dogs from the Everett shelter. I read the story about it right after we posted on the other thread. I did have second thoughts about bringing more dogs into an already over populated area. I've seen other posts here from people looking for Boxers in the Seattle area and there just aren't many to be had. If someone is looking for breed specific dogs than it isn't going to make any difference to the animals already in the shelters.

You don't have to say what rescue you're with, just the city and I can find it. Are you with a rescue in Bellevue?
Yes, several are from Everett. The rescue is based out of Issaquah, though it's not really a place, more of a network of volunteers and foster homes. The director does have eight dogs at her house right now, all with the canine flu.

Since it's not a formal type rescue I couldn't contact you through it. I will be going right through Issaquah when I get there. It will most likely be Christmas Eve if the weather cooperates. Would Axle like a foster brother for Christmas?

Emily, I can put off going to Nashville until Sunday if that would help.

Maddie's Dad - I am leaving Atlanta tomorrow noon, I can leave earlier if need be. I can meet you at the costco in Brentwoord--it is on the way to Memphis. What time will you be at the costco.

axks mom - the name of the shelter is Gwinnett County Animal Control, I have not been in contact with anyone. It is not my local shelter but one a few counties away. I will call in the morning. Yes there would be a fee, I would have to "adopt" the dog as I am not a state registered rescue volunteer, I am not sure how much the fee is but I would be glad to pay it.
I don't know if the dogs are altered but I know they have to be within 30 days or they have to be immediately, not sure which probably the within 30 days. I am leaving tomorrow.

The shelter opens at 9:30 I will call them asap and let you guys know as soon as I can if any of the dogs are available and whatever other info I can get.

My original plan was be there when it opened. How long does it take to get to Nashville from Atlanta? Larry was going to come with me, but UK is playing Louisville and he wants to watch that. Since you are an hour ahead of me, I'll wait to hear from you before I leave. -Jan

Unhappy

I really want this to work, but am a little concerned. I'll be at work untill 3pm tomorrow, so will be completely out of the loop. I would've liked to have some information on a dog before committing to have it in my home. I have three dogs of my own, and two small kids. I so want this to work, but I don't know. I think this needed alot more time to come together. I hope I am not letting you guys down, but feel any last minute arrangements made might not be the best decisions. I think you guys are so wonderful for trying to put this together, I hope we can make something work in the future that's well planned, and have more than one foster home ready, I can post them on our website in advance, we'll know more about the temperment of these dogs, as well as the information needed on pulling fees, vaccinations, spaying, neutering, etc. I just don't want there to be any mistakes.

I hope you understand.

Axlsmom, I do understand. I have the same concerns, except for the two small children. I have three dogs here also. If I was to transport one, it would be staying with me for a few days and then I'd be traveling with all of them across the country. I must be nuts. Nobody wants there to be any mistakes. We all have the dogs best interest in mind, too. -Jan Maddie's Mom

Emily, since you haven't posted this morning, I'm assuming you won't be contacting the shelter. It's a two hour drive to Nashville for me, so if something does come up I will be back this afternoon. I'll check in when I get home. I'm hoping to make another trip home this summer. We shouild be able to have things worked for a smooth transport. Perhaps we all could arrainge to meet in a chat room and work out all the details. That way everyone involved is all to gether at the same time.

I have done a search on Petfinder and there are very few Boxers available in the Seattle area. -Jan

If we don't hear from you, have a safe trip and a Very Merry Christmas.

Hi guys I am so sorry I havent posted. the shelter would not take calls on saturday and I actually had to go to the shelter (an hour away) to see the dogs and if they were still there. But all three were placed into a home or rescue so no worries. I too think it was too last minute to workout but perhaps we can work something out in the future, great to know you guys are there.b You guys have a safe christmas too, the summer would be great I am always traveling back and forth from Atlanta to Memphis. Be safe sorry for the confusion this morning.

I'm sorry this didn't work out, but glad to know there are people willing to do so much. I guess it's a good thing that there aren't very many boxers in shelters up here. I wish it was the same everywhere. Have you guys signed up for the Boxer Cur?

Hope you all have a very Happy Holidays!

I just got in. My alternator went out around Clarksville. I'm glad to hear those three dogs are safe. We'll try and do this again in the summer and have a little more time to plan.

Axlsmom, will you be able to join Holly and me if we meet up the day after Christmas?
