How do you organize a transport?

I found a boxer I want to rescue, but he's in davenport, Il. I emailed the humane society and am hoping they will let me adopt him. If I can, how do you go by organizing a transport? I found the boxer CUR site, so do I just email them, call them or what? It's pretty akward, but I guess thats what they volunteer for. Do you give each person who helps you some kind of monetary gift? How does it all work? Thanks!

Ps...I think I am going to sign up for that also, it seems exciting and fun. Just need to talk to the wifey first as I'm sure she'd want to tag along.
