Anyone been to Jamaica?

Hey all..
DH and I are going on a trip to Jamaica in just under 3 weeks time and I am soooo overwhelmed with the amount of excursions available from our resort. We're staying 7 nights and plan to take in 3 tours/excursions outside the resort but it's so hard to choose!!!

We're staying in Negril. We'd really like to do at least one of the waterfall tours..I hear Dunn's River Falls are amazing, but it's quite the bus ride to get there. Closer to where we'll be are the YS Falls and Mayfield falls. Has anyone ever been? Is it worth the trip to Dunn's River?

I'd also really like to do the coffee plantation tour in the Blue Mountains. Being a biology student, I'm really into eco-tourism.

For the other..we're stuck between Dolphin swimming (which we've done in florida before), jeep safari and river rafting, or a tour of the appleton estate! ACK!

Anyway...I would love to hear stories and experiences from trips to Jamaica and about the activities you loved and hated. Might help us decide which sights to take in !!

Thanks
Lori

Dunn's Rivers Falls is gorgeous!! My fiance and I stopped in Jamaica on our cruise. We also went horseback riding on trails and in the ocean!! It was fun. Just warning you in advance you are are going to get approached to purchase some herb probably by more than one person!!!! I would just be careful when going out of the resort. If the excursions are supplied by the hotel you'll be fine. HAVE fun!! We had a blast!

While cruising the Panama Canal a couple years ago celebrating Mom's 65th birthday, I absolutely fell in love with Montego Bay, Jamaica - the people, food, beaches, water - heavenly !

Only having just a day to explore, we decided on the River Rafting tour and highly recommend it - the one we did wasn't a typical river rafting experience. Each 2 person bamboo raft is guided by their own personal rafter, gondola style. We gracefully, floated down-stream and soaked up the breathtaking surroundings & lush vegetation, etc. So peaceful & relaxing! I think it lasted 40-45 minutes, perhap a bit longer ~ 2 miles.

Whatever you decide, even basking on the sunny beaches or poolside will be fantastic. Have a great time and be sure to give us an update

I went to Jamaica about 4 years ago. We ended up going to yhe YS falls and that was fun. Another place that was fun was Ricks Cafe. Its on the cliffs and you can jump off or watch the Jamacians do some crazy dives off the cliffs.
I agree with jlynnholt's comments. Definitely be careful when traveling outside of your resort. We walked from one resort to another to go snorkeling and during the 5 minute walk we almost got jumped for my husbands addidas flip-flops.
Other than that it was a fun time

My boyfriend and I went to Jamaica in 2003. We had the best time, weather was great. I would definitely go to dunn's river falls Its a bit of a journey but worth it, They were building a new road between Ocho Rios and Negril, It was due to be completed in 2000, THe stretch between Montego Bay and Negril was done, but they were still working on the rest!! WE also took a day trip to see the coffee plantations on the Blue mountains, Had a great day but it was extremley long the bus picked us up at 04:45 and dropped us of at 22:45 Needed a day or two to recover after that!!
I didn't think much of the dolphin swimming, It was so expensive for what it actually was. It felt like a theme park/ Zoo. The river rafting is what I would recommend, Very laid back great wildlife on both banks and you could pull up along side a raft with a cool box, buy a couple of cold red stripes and relax!!

We docked in Jamaica last year on our cruise.. the island was nice we docked in Montego Bay. I love it all but you could not walk two step in some areas without someone coming up to you trying to sell you this and that. There were nine of us and each of us had someone different come up trying to pull us this way and that. We went to the beach to snorkle when getting ready to leave we had literally 10 or more taxi drivers each pulling us trying to get us in their taxi. It's like leave us alone.. We had met a driver earlier that agreed to pick us up and showed us around he was great. Other than that we loved it just be careful and don't go out by yourself.. becareful.

Weed yea someone will try to sell it to you.. we stopped at one hotel to see our driver took us to that was really nice and there was this guy at the pool smoking weed right there..
