Cool Paris

Last Saturday I went with Gwyneth (our speedy moderator) to Paris from Brussels. It was a short visit but long enough for Gwyneth I believe to have an overview of the city, huge and tiring waiting line for Eiffel tower included
The photos were taken too quickly and many of them aren't well framed... It gives me a reason for going back there to take better photos

Picture of the Seine river near Cathédrale Notre Dame

Le musée du Louvre, one of its buildings.
You can read more about it at http://www.louvre.fr/louvrea.htm

http://www.boxerworld.net/paris/paris2.jpg
Pyramide du Louvre: it's the entrance of the museum

http://www.boxerworld.net/paris/paris3.jpg
Jardin (garden) des Tuileries (17C). It is located between the Louvre and the place de la Concorde.

http://www.boxerworld.net/paris/paris4.jpg
Tour Eiffel. It was built in 1887 for the Paris exhibition of 1889 by Gustave Eiffel. He's the one who also built the interior structure of the Statue of Liberty.
More about the tower at http://www.tour-eiffel.fr/teiffel/uk/

Eiffel tower closer.

Same, but higher.

Wide angle pic taken from the third and last floor of Eiffel tower

http://www.boxerworld.net/paris/paris9.jpg
La Cathédrale Notre Dame. It took time to build it (1163 to 1345). Great place for gargoyles lovers

Centre Pompidou - Beaubourg. It's a building made of steel and glass box suspended from beams supported by visible
scaffolding. You can see the escalators in the tubes. It's a public library and also the National gallery of modern art.
For more info: http://www.cnac-gp.fr/Pompidou/Accue...enDocument&L=2

http://www.boxerworld.net/paris/paris11.jpg
Picture of the Louvre museum taken from the tower. You can still see a part of the pyramid.

http://www.boxerworld.net/paris/paris12.jpg
L'obélisque, place de la Concorde.

http://www.boxerworld.net/paris/paris13.jpg
L'Arc de Triomphe & Champs Elysées. There is the tomb of the "unknown soldier" of WWI below the arch. The arch was built in 1806 to celebrate Napoléon's victories.

http://www.boxerworld.net/paris/paris14.jpg
This is the Hôtel des Invalides. It is a military school. Napoléon I's tomb is below the dome.

http://www.boxerworld.net/paris/paris15.jpg
It's the Parc du Champs de Mars. The building at the end of the park is a military school for officers.
The black tower in the background is the Tour Montparnasse. There is a restaurant there with a fantastic panoramic view

http://www.boxerworld.net/paris/paris16.jpg
Again the Louvre museum with its pyramid. In the background you can see the Centre Pompidou and its strange design.

http://www.boxerworld.net/paris/paris17.jpg
Notre Dame from the Eiffel tower.

http://www.boxerworld.net/paris/paris18.jpg
Palais de Chaillot. It's a museum and theater (even movie theater).

http://www.boxerworld.net/paris/paris19.jpg
Basilique du Sacré Coeur. Great view of Paris from there.

http://www.boxerworld.net/paris/paris20.jpg
Effeil Tower. There are two restaurants on the two first levels. Most pictures posted here were taken from the third floor (276 meters - 905.51 feet).

Fantastic pictures Olly. The views are gorgeous. Almost makes me feel as if I was there looking out over Paris.

Thanks for sharing your extraordinary photo skills.

Thumbs up

Thanks for sharing those great pics of Paris. Looks like a beautiful place to visit. I finally got to see what the Lovre looks like. I am into Art, love to visit Art museums. Glad you had a great time. The Eiffel Tower is awesome too. I will check out the links too.

Wow, great pictures, the last one of the tower is really nice. The pictures taken from tower are really something especially L'arc de triumph, and boy the Centre Pompidou really sticks out like a sore thumb among the rest. The Notre Dame Cathedral is beautiful.

Hi Olly...the pictures are great, thanks for sharing. Now, if I wasn't so afraid to fly, I'd be able to see those beautiful places myself!

Thanks Olly, what beautiful photos you have put on the forum.
I am just sorry that I didn't have enough time for travelling to Europe when I was in England last month, it was more of a family visit this time as my Aunt has just had her 87th. Birthday; the holiday wasn't really planned, I only went as I could get a cheap flight, less than half price!

Don't panic Barb - you haven't upset me in the least. ROFL you sure made me wake up in a hurry (and on Monday morning too ) but that's about the extent of it
