any one familiar w/ Poplar Bluff, MO

We are going to Poplar bluff, MO this weekend so that my husband can pick up two puppies. (Black and Tan coonhounds).

I was wondering if anyone is from around that area that can help me find a nice motel. He is going to go hunting that night with the guy he is meeting so that means I will be in the room with the puppies.

I just wanted to ask those of you that was familiar w/the area, before i tried to do a search on the computer for a nice place to stay.

Thanks,
Melyssa

You might try using MSN.com site for locating a motel for that area.

I hope you have throughly screened the breeder for the black & tan coonhound puppies. Missouri & Kansas are the top producers of commerical breeders (puppymill breeders). There are many more that aren't USDA &/or State licensed that should be because of the numbers of puppies they are producing and/or the number of adults they have on their premises for breeding.

Here are some URL's that might help you.

I would recommend talking to a rescue group for a possible breeder referral or talking to someone with the national or parent coonhound club for a referral.

Thanks for the site. My husband is basiclly concerned with the hunting ability of the dog. He is not showing them. He had a dog that a very close cross to these puppies and It has been his favorite dog. So he has checked into a lot of it.

Thanks

It doesn't matter that you do not want to show the dog, you want to purchase ANY breed from a reputable breeder.

Reputable breeders breed dogs correct for the standards that are set for that breed. They breed dogs that are the correct temperment and they do appropriate health testing for that particular breed.

When irresponsible breeders breed dogs that do not conform to the standards for health, temperment, conformation - problems are passed on to the puppies. This is another reason why the different breeds end up not looking like they suppose to.

With coonhounds (from just the short things I have looked at while searching for the URL's for you) at a MINIMUM, they should be testing for hips, elbows, & thyroid.

Click on one of the URL's from my original post and you will see what a coonhound is.
