Ugh yea! We were on bourbon all of Saturday night (and it was still nice out then like in the upper 60's lower 70's) so at least we got one nice day/night of weather.

We missed a blizzard in Wisconsin with 12" of snow - so even though it got down to the 40's yesterday we still walked around to cafe du monde and went to the French market and also rode the st. Charles street car all the way through and back to canal street to see part of the garden district. Talk about a cheap 1.25/person tour! haha

We ended up going to Cajun cabin off of bourbon to watch the game - we saw a sign out Saturday that said they had Sunday ticket so we were there until halftime of the packer game then took a cab to the superdome. We were in champions square before the game! It was awesome.

I ended up puking Sunday night though - damn hand grenades and bourbon street...oh well. Wouldn't trade it for the world. It was amazing. Thanks again.

Boston George, I need your help! I'm planning on coming down to your neck of the woods the 2nd weekend in February with my BF. I booked the Omni Royal Orlean but am thinking of switching to the Elysian Fields Inn. Do you know anything about these 2 places? Or any other recommendations? Just think I want to try a B&B for a more romantic getaway. Any recommendations for a good catfish PoBoy? I plan on eating my way through NOLA.

Thanks!

I'd stay at the omni royal orleans. Bed and breakfasts are nice...but this way you could be within walking distance of a bunch of New Orleans attractions.

Good Food-- Cafe Du Monde for beignets and coffee
Mothers - best food!! great poboys! ....look up their website mothersrestaurant.net

Want old school legendary new orleans restaurants with the best service imaginable??

Galatoires , Antoine's (oysters rockefeller!!). commanders palace. Anyone in New Orleans will know what you are talking about if you mention these restaurants. Theyre incredible. Best service ever. Most have a dress code but I think they say what it is on all of their websites. No jeans, men must wear a jacket for dinner...that kind of thing..old school

My favorite after Saints game place to eat Camellia Grill!!!! Another old school new orleans diner. Everyone knows about it. My dad used to go their as a kid. Anything you want. Best burgers, omlettes...you have to get a "mocha" if you go.

I could go on forever.

Go see St.Louis Cathedral...right across from Cafe Du Monde.

French Market

lots and lots to do!!

Sorry I'm just answering!! I missed your post! Hope this helps!!!!

Thanks! This does help. I can't wait to check out New Orleans!!! I ended up switching to the Hotel Monteleone because the Omni Royal Orleans only had "petite" rooms left (didn't realize that when I booked it) and I heard those were teeny tiny. Are the horse drawn carriage rides worth it or should we just walk around? Also, thinking about taking the street car to the Garden District. Any other "must dos"?

ooo you will love the Monteleone!!!!! The street cars are great...and cheap!! The carriage rides are nice...just see where they take you/ how much...they can be fun. New Orleans is known for its voodoo so if you're interested in anything like that they have the voodoo museum in the quarter and i'd go see some of the cemeteries. They are all above ground because new orleans is shaped like a bowl and floods. They can't bury bodies in the ground because of the water. Lafayette cemetary and st. louis cemetary are really famous and really haunted...i think over 300,000 people are buried within one city block. I've heard it can be a cool tour.

I know you can go on tours to the 9th ward to see what that hussy Katrina did. A lot of it is still untouched and its incredible to see the water lines on the houses. I'd go with a tour there though just to be on the safe side...the 9th ward isnt the best part of town.

See if you can find a mardi gras parade!!!!!! Carnival started a few weeks ago so parades will be rolling!! Mardi gras is late this year so youre coming at a good time

Don't forget to try some king cake!!

If anyone is a history buff the national WWII museum is amazing!!!! Their victory theater is incredible...its a 4D..yes 4D movie of the war. Pretty cool.

They also have river boat rides down the mississippi that are pretty neat.

Lotssss to do!

Ill see if i can find a parade for you. That is a MUST!

Awesome!!! I didn't know parades started already?!?! I thought they only had one on Mardi Gras itself. Woo hoo! I've heard about the voodoo museum and want to check it out but it may take a bit of convincing for the BF. I'd also like to check out the WWII museum but it may make me sad. Is it February yet? I'm ready to go!!!

The WWII museum is a sad at times. War is sad all together. but it is absoultely fascinating none the less. If you go see the movie in Victory Theater....it snows on you! and the seats vibrated and move around! Wayyyy cool!

Parades happen all through the season! The season starts on 12th night which was a few weeks ago and runs through Mardi Gras which is March 8th this year.

What dates are you going to be in New Orleans for?

Mmm ... I may have to check out the WWII museum then. The 4D movie sounds awesome. We're arriving early on Friday 2/11 and leaving late Monday afternoon.

I'm making a list of all the things you said (restaurants and to do's). I'll be fully prepared when I get there. Thanks!
