Ireland: things to do, places to not miss

Hubby and I are going to Ireland in October. We're flying in to Shannon, then staying in Donegal, Westport, Clifden, and Killarney (at various B & Bs) for a total of 8 days.

Is there anything we should do in those areas? Or anyone with boxers we can go visit?

We're spending a few nights in Donegal and 2 nights in Killarney. We're definitely doing the Ring of Kerry.

I'll add your suggestions to our list of places to see.
Thanks

If you are in Kerry then you are close to the Ring of Beara in Cork also. Ive driven the Ring of Kerry and the Beara one and the Beara one is absolutely stunning. There are beautiful places on the ring such as Glengarriff (gorgeous) and the scenery is amazing, also there is a place called Gougane Barra- the most stunning place ever (tiny church in the mountains). In Killarney- Muckross House, Gap of Dunloe and Torc waterfall are all lovely too. If you can stay in the Lakes Hotel there the views are breath taking.

Seems as you are flying into Shannon you are in County Clare (filled to the top with scenery) i would recommend going to Lahinch, the Cliffs of Moher and Bunratty Castle.

My home place is only 20mins from Shannon.....Getting home sick now....Cause my little girl is there.... boo-hoo.
If u get boxer withdrawal symptoms u can visit my baby!!!!

Any other questions about Kerry, Clare or Limerick and il help u out as much as i can. (im from Limerick myself)
Hope u enjoy the honeymoon.
Oh and bring your woolies it will be cold and prob a little damp too!!!

Thanks. We're prepared with fall/wintery clothes. I live in Maine....so we're used to being chilly.

I've added your ideas to our evergrowing intererary. I really want to get to Kildare to see the Irish National Stud. Pretty sure it will be a long drive for us.....but its still my plan.

If you see 2 americans wandering around any of those area Oct 8th thru Oct 17th and looking excited when seeing a boxer......its probably my husband and I. I may take you up on the offer to see your dog. I've also never seen a boxer with a tail.....should be interesting.

My mom might see you but unfortunately I wont, I moved to New Zealand last month and my mom is looking after my girl for a few months until she joins us over here-i wanted to have a house sorted before she came(i miss her sooo much tho)! Frank has a docked tail too unfortunately- she had been docked before I spoke to the breeder. I love the natural look! Rare to see an undocked boxer here even tho its not really acceptable to do it over here anymore and ear cropping is illegal. 2 piece of good news:
1. Ireland is small so a long drive is normally about 4hrs max!
2. there are loads of boxers in Ireland- very popular breed and most are very happy to have people looking at and rubbing their dogs- so dont be shy!

If you're going to be in Donegal, I would certainly recommend driving up the north coast of Ireland to see the Giant's Causeway in Co. Antrim- It's something not to miss! Driving from Donegal shouldn't take more than 2 hours and the scenery en route is amazing! The Bushmills Whiskey distillery is only 10 mins away. I also really liked Belfast - the city has a really nice atmosphere and some of the historic tours are really interesting, especially the openness and honesty about the Troubles and how the city has bounced back. I certainly think this would let you see a different side to the country. Also, the people of Northern Ireland are amongst the friendliest I've met!

I hope you have a really good time!
