Question New York City - hotel recommendations?

A friend and I will be traveling from Philadelphia to NYC at the end of October to attend two concerts. We want to spend the night (probably two) and are looking for recommendations on hotels that are near or convenient via public transit to Madison Square Garden. We're leaning towards taking Amtrak to get to NYC.

I'm really excited about the shows - it's the 25th anniversary of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The first night is Bruce Springsteen, Simon & Garfunkel, Crosby Stills & Nash and Stevie Wonder. The second night is Eric Clapton, Aretha Franklin, Metallica and U2.

I am sooooo jealous!!! I always stay at the Hotel Pennsylvania. It's right across from the train station and the shuttles to various spots are across the street. It's pretty accessible to everything.

Thanks, Lisa. I'll check it out.

Should I bring you back a t-shirt?

Awe thanks! I think you should hide me away in your luggage though. LOL And how did Metallica get in the mix the second night? What an odd grouping.

Have a great time and think of me when Aretha sings R-E-S-P-E-C-T! That one gets my toes dancing!
