Mardi Gras in Mobile

Two of my friends and I are going to Mobile, AL this weekend. One of my friend's dad lives there and she wants to visit him, and since carnival is going on we thought it would be fun to go now.
I've never been to a Mardi Gras celebration. I hear Mobile isn't quite as wild as New Orleans, and maybe that's good for a newbie

Was hoping some natives (or regular carnival goers) may be able to share some tips.

Is there anything I should know in advance/be aware of? Particular places of interest not to miss, etc.? Nightlife?

Laissez les bon temps rouler!

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too.

Mobile is nothing like New Orleans.
It is very family oriented. Just be sure and take a bag or something to put all your beads and moon pies in...

Be careful about parking... you will get towed if parked on the parade route.
And, you had better bring rain gear, it is suppose to rain all weekend.

Have Fun!!!
