This is a castle in Puivert, the film "The Ninth Gate" with Johnny Depp, was filmed here

This is the entrance to Carcassonne, which is one of the most impressive castles I have ever seen. I have been told not to call it a castle as it is a city (citadel).

Yes, the first photo is the main gate to the old fortified city of Carcassonne, the "real" castle is actually your second photo (where there is an entry fee).
I went there last september and I was more lucky with the weather

Your photo really captured the size of it.
We paid to enter the castle itself and went on the guided tour (something we never do). It was well worth it.

WOW!!! I think this is the one of the most beautiful pictures I've ever seen. I love History so visiting places like this with all the stories would be amazing!!!!
