Congratulations! I would recommend Mexico or Hawaii. Its nice there and tropical. You can always find a good deal too. Mexico is great b/c of the all inclusives!

We were recently in Kauai Hawaii and it was lovely! We were there end of Sept. It didn't cost too much b/c we used our airmiles. That is what I learnt from my wedding. Your spending a crap load of money on the wedding anways....put it all on your airmiles visa. We paid for our flights for our honeymoon (last year) to Europe......

Anyhooo back to your honeymoon...... I recommend renting a condo. We did that in Kauai and it was way cheaper than a hotel. Plus every morning we made breakfast and coffee and sat on our patio watching the ocean! We stayed at the Poipu Kapili. I highly recommend it!

And yes!!! Use tripadvisor. Very very helpful info here!

Hawaii would be my dream, but unfortuneately it is too expensive for us. We dont have any air miles or anything to help us with the flight. Flying from MI to Hawaii is very expensive. I had a friend offer to give us one of her "getaways" from her timeshare and it would make our stay REALLY cheap at a 5 star resort. So far, I have looked at places in Key West, Grand Caymen, Bahamas, and St. Thomas. We are looking to be able to golf and fish and maybe some sighseeing, along with the beach of course! Anyone been to any of those places?

I didn't go to warm or beachy location for my honeymoon, but when I was 16 I went to Puerto Rico for a class trip. My teacher was born and raised there. I had a wonderful time. We went to many interesting places. I only mention it because I never hear of anybody considering it for a trip. I haven't looked at prices to go there in a long time-maybe it is too expensive. For what it is worth I loved Puerto Rico and if I get the chance I will go back again in a heartbeat. Just and idea.

Hawaii

Don't rule out Hawaii...my parents go every year for the last 8 years and have been to all of the Islands.
We went last year for 2 weeks...you can go pretty cheap if you don't stay in the huge resorts and if you DO go to the big island of Hawaii - also called Kona.
If you stay in a Bed a Breakfast - you can stay for about $500 for a week. Just rent a jeep (a little pricey) and explore the Island. We got a jeep and were glad because we wanted to do some off-roading exploring.
My DH and I did go snorkeling, whale watching on a private catamaran and horseback riding in the rainforest...but if we wouldn't have - we could've gone for about $2,500.
Next time we won't do anything but explore the island.
It is TOTALLY do-able...and I would recommend Kona for sure...it's the most beautiful place I have ever been...most of the island is untouched other than lava, rainforests or black or green sand beaches. It's a place to go and sightsee.
We found a few beaches that were literally off the beaten path and had some quite romatic afternoons by ourself
It would just take some fancy booking, but it is doable!
Otherwise - check out Santa Barbara or San Francisco...those are cool places!

Fawn's Mom is right!!!!! Hey you know you should check out Frommers and Fodors online. I use them all the time. They offer alot of good suggestions for budget vacations.

Another thing I saw on the news today....Dominican Republic. There was a deal for $500 pp air & hotel for 2 weeks. Were in Canada but maybe you can find a deal like that where you are

Yes. We live in East Central Florida and we love the Keys. We go there every summer. Key West is kind of one of those places where it has to be your "thing". We love Key Largo and that is where we went on our Honeymoon. But a lot depends on your budget. Key West is going to be more expensive. However, depending on what you are into, there is a wild night life there (we are more into camping, snorkelling and relaxing, so it's not for us). In Key West there are a lot of historical tours you can do. Jet skiing water tours, boat tours where you go out all day on a catamaran and do all the fun water sports. You can do sunset dinner cruises, etc...There are plenty of pretty bed and breakfast type places to stay in and lot's of partying and shopping.

In Key Largo, we took a few boat trips out to reefs for some awesome snorkelling, there are plenty of nice places to eat good food and the Theater of the Sea was really fun for us.

However, if you don't want to go all the way down south, but want the beach and something romantic, I would suggest you look into St. Augustine. It's beautiful, the beach is beautiful and it's a very romantic city with lots of older buidling and bed and breakfasts and horse and buggy carriage rides, tours, etc...

That's my 2 cents (and some...)

We went on our honeymoon in the Keys in early September, BUT we live in Florida, so we are use to the heat here. That was a bad year for hurricanes and if we'd gotten married a week later, we would have been evacuated.

St. Augustine will be hot, but I would still highly recommend it at that time of year. It's just so pretty. If you haven't decided, September would be better than August, as August is just about our hottest month.

I was going to suggest the Dominican Republic, but I have never been to a resort down there. I went when I was in college about 5 years ago for a class and the beaches there are absolutely gorgeous! I stayed with a host family when I was down there, but we got to experience a lot and could see the resorts from the beaches and they looked beautiful! My aunt has been down there on holiday and absolutely loved it

I think we have decided to go to the Bahamas. A friend of mine offered us one of her getaways with her time share and we got a REALLY good price for the whole week, all inclusive. Anyone been there? We will be staying at the Paradise Island Resort, which I have heard is really nice. Now I just have to book the flight which will be more than it is costing us to stay at the hotel.

We went to Aruba. It wasn't that expensive and we did all inclusive. We went off the resort and the locals in most places were amazing alot of shops and all kinds of activities and stuff to do. I can't wait to get back there again. The best part is, it's a constant 82 degress with a beautiful breeze all the time. A coworker of mine went also and we always go over stories of this and that. And even if you aren't in the mood to do all the fun stuff. Relaxing on the beautiful beaches was more then enough. With my poolside drinks I was good to go.
