Thumbs up New York holiday

Hi all,

I know there are quite a few people on the board from New York and I was hoping for some ideas of MUST see's when in New York. We are hopefully going to be there at the end of September for about a week, so not too much time to just wonder around with no plan of what we want to see.

Any ideas on fairly rated, but still decent accommodation would also be appreciated, our exchange rate is 7 to $1.

Thanks guys and hold thumbs for me I go for my visa interview tomorrow

Oooo you lucky thing, me & dh went for a week a couple of years ago and loved it.
We did most of the sites too, Empire State building (we booked our tickets online over here so we didn't have to queue), Central Park, Ground Zero, Grand Central station (totally amazing), Statue of Liberty and that's just naming a few
We stayed at The Waldorf Hotel too which was fabulous. And dh was kind to me & spent 4 hours in Macy's for me and 3 hours in Bloomingdales, lol.

I am so jealous now You will have a fab time
Have a look online for things to do/see that's what we did and we bought a great travel book for visitors.

Do you need a visa, we didn't?

Hi Lisa. I am a native New Yorker that now lives in Tennessee. Unfortunately, growing up there seems to make one take things for granted. You don't appreciate what's there until you move away. One thing that never fails to leave me in awe though is the Statue of Liberty. To stand and just look up at her leaves me at at loss for words. She is HUGE. And of course, you can't go to NY and not see a Broadway Show. There is an Italian restaurant in the theatre district called "Carmine's" that is very good. Just walking around the city is enjoyable too. The sights, the people...I haven't travelled very much but I can't imagine any place else being so vibrant.

IF the opportunity presents itself and you rent a car, a drive north of the city would be enjoyable as well. People seem to equate New York with the city, but an hour's drive north of the city, even less than that, and you are in the country. New York State as a whole is beautiful.

I'm sorry I can't help you out with where to stay. I normally just stay at my mom's where I grew up.

I hope you enjoy your trip. You're going at a good time weather-wise. It won't be so hot and not yet too cold. If you have any questions, I'll try to answer them for you.

Well I went for my Visa and it got approved, I just need to wait and see if it is valid for a short period or a few years.

Thanks for the ideas, I don't think we can go far wrong wherever we go or whatever we do. We are hoping to catch a show and maybe even go to the Rolling Stones concert which should be on the time we are there. We also hope to take a drive a little bit out of the city.

Now we just need to confirm our tickets and then we can book our accommodation, so I am going to be doing alot of surfing on that in the meantime.

I don't want to get excited until those tickets are confirmed.

I'm not from NY or ever been there but I just wanted to say go go to the Rolling Stones. It was one of the best concerts I have ever been to in my life. Believe me I have been to alot of them. My DH is a music sorta guy and we go to all of the ones we can. Have fun and let us know how it goes.

Lisa, I think you will enjoy the whole experience. I can help you out with driving directions if you like. I'll check this post to see if I can help you in any way.
