It took about one week after surgery to get Kody's taped. Just keep an eye on them after they are taped, you want them to stay straight up, we had to re tape one, it was leaning a little!!
good luck!

Everyone talks about taping thier ears. I never had to tape Jazzy's The vet. cropped and took the stiches out 8 days later and they have never been taped. I have a picture of her in my gallery. She just woke up so her ears are not standing straight up. But they do when she is alert. They cut them when she was 12 weeks old. A little Neosporin every day was all it took.

Jazzy has a short wide crop. Usually not near as much bell is left and the ear is usually left longer. A few of mine have had similar crops...this style of ear crop doesn't require near as much taping (or, like in your case, none at all). With my own, the pups came home with their ears taped, 10 days later the tape was removed as well as the stitches and we were done. With a longer crop and a thinner base, more taping is required.

I have a pic of Nin in my gallery at 5 months. She has a long show crop. She was in tape until 8 months old. Even now I am using the breathe right strips to keep her tips straight.

Her ears "stood" after her first taping but not straight and they would have fallen if I had not retaped her up.

She was cropped at 10 weeks.

Well, the ears have obviously healed. I am the OP. Hailey is now almost 4 months old. She has a long thin show crop (the whole length of the ear and almost nil for bell). Her ears are standing quite well. It is only the tips that eventually fall. The only problem I have is that when taped they tip in so I use a stiff bracing bar to keep them perfectly straight. Her ears never fell over at the base outwards. My breeder says I will probably have to tape till 6 months and then breath right strips.

Greetings. My 'teenager' still needs to be taped, and re-taped weekly,he's got the long show crop as well and they'll start falling at the base outwards (although only slightly, the right one stays pretty OK but the left is not quite there yet) after 24 hours. Breeder says he doesn't have long to go and keep checking every week to see if they stay up. The tape i got sticks TERRIBLE so I need 2 things if i may add to this post.

1. What brand of tape can i pick up at Walgreens that will stick???
2. If they don't need as much support as the wrap around tape job but need a little bit more support, would the breathe right method be easier for a 'newbie' like me?

The breeder gave me lessons but i am nowhere near as good as she was, don't want to mess ears up!

I used zonas tape to tape- I had to buy it online but a friend told me some pharmacys carry or will order it for you. Try sports tape or ace athletic tape.

The breathe right method- Basically you buy a box of breath right strips and a bottle of medical glue. I have skin bond- again I bought online. You put a little glue on the back of the strip and a little on the ear. I use 2 strips- one right at the ear bump over the break and up and the other overlapping a little and to the tip.

The strips work to give the break a little extra strength and keep the ends from curling.

If you are taping and trying I think you will be okay. I was pretty sure I would ruin Ninyas ears somehow. I was paranoid for a long time and I know some of my tape jobs were not that great- but her ears look fine :-)
