haws?

What is a haw? I see it on the breeders websites - double dark, double light and dark on the show side. I can't figure it out and it's driving me crazy.

Haws are the third eye lid on a dog and unpigmented haws are a fault in the show ring.

The "haw" is the third eyelid. As far as boxer standard, pigmented or "dark haws" are desirable; unpigmented or "light haws" are less desirable. "Double dark haws" means that the third eyelid is pigmented in both eyes. "Double light haws" means both are light. "Show side" refers to the left side, which is the side that faces the photographer when posing for show photos.

Creek has "double dark haws," which is most common in plain (non-flashy) boxers.

Caney has "double light haws" which is most common in white boxers, and also commonly seen in flashy boxers.

MaeBell has double light haws, although you can only see one of them here. This would be the "show side"

Thank you for explaining it. It was seriously making me insane. I have several boxer books and none of them even mention it. Not even the one that talks about showing.

Thank you for asking. I've tried and tried to figure out what this referred to. I've googled several different things trying to figure it out. Also, thanks for the good explanation!

So my girl has one dark and one light haw. But her light haw is on the show side. But that makes sense since her flash is on the left side of her neck.

My kids were always asking why her one eye is red. Now I can explain it to him.
