Mabel would like to thank you ...

...for your birthday wishes. Her mum (me!) would like to thank you for a year's worth of great advice, support, and of course all the get well wishes from when that blasted fisher demon thing tried to eat us. I don't post a lot, but I read a lot, and the information here is invaluable.

I have a question about the halti-lead. Off to search the forum listings for the appropriate board.

Now about those doggie cookies...they are SO easy...

large apple - I usually use a macintosh or a cortland
1/4 cup honey
1/2 cup of water
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup oatmeal (Quaker rolled...NOT instant or quick cooking)
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour, plus another 1/8 cup whole wheat flour (keep separate)

Preheat oven to 350 ° F (180 ° C).

Core, slice and mince the apple (I use the food processor for the mincing). Combine the minced apple bits, honey, water, cinnamon, and oatmeal in a bowl. Gradually blend in the wheat flour, until the dough is stiff.

Put some extra wheat flour in a separate bowl. (most grocery stores carry whole wheat flour now, but you can always find it at a Whole Foods-type place...Trader Joe's and the like...)

Spoon the dough by rounded teaspoon onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches (5cm) apart. Using the bottom of a glass dipped in the wheat flour (to prevent sticking), flatten each spoonful of dough into a circle. You can make them as big or as little as you want them...bite-sized kibble-type size for training, bigger for regular ole' cookies.

Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and flip each cookie to brown evenly on both sides. Reduce oven temperature to 325 ° F (180 °C). Return to oven and bake for an additional 30 minutes.

Make sure they're cool before giving them to your dog...Mabel tends to freak out when something hotter than room temperature hits her tongue. These really are easy to make, and they're great for dogs with IBD.
