Chicken and Rice

We've been having some problems with Duke our 4 month old baby. He constantly has diaherra (sp). We have given him medicine but as soon as the medicine stops his diaherra returns. We are currently feeding him Science Diet Large Puppy. I've recently read this is crap dog food. We are going to change, probably to Wellness but in the meantime I would like to give him chicken and rice.
What is the recipe for chicken and rice? White rice? Boneless, skinless chicken?
Thanks in advance.

p.s. I've learned SO much from this website, thank you to all of you. I'm a new boxer mommy and don't think I could do it without all of you.

You can just boil some chicken, whatever you want, I usually do thighs and breast because that is usually what I have. You need regular rice, not instant. Just add some chicken to the rice, there really is no set amount to my knowledge. The main thing is that it is bland to help settle the tummy. I would first fast him for 24 hours, then start with the chicken and rice, in very small amounts, such as 1 to 2 tablespoons. He he does okay, give him some more in an hour or two. Gradually increase it. Feed him just that for a couple of days, then slowly start mixing in the food (a good time to try a new food). You should probably mix for at least a couple of days, small smount of kibble vs. chicken and rice at first. Wellness is a good food, I wouldn't do the large breed though. Just do the regular puppy.

Thank you SO much. We are taking Duke to the vet tomorrow for his shots and to discuss his "problems". I anticipate she will push Royal Canin since that's all I've heard since we first took him there however, we are definitely going to try the rice and chicken to see if we can't get him "regular" and then switch him to Wellness.

Don't give in to your vet. Mine tried to push me on Science Diet, I of course said no way! Wellness is a much better food than Royal Canin. Most vets don't research food or nutrition for animals. I'd stick with the Wellness plan. Be straight forward and tell them you are going to try this food and see how it goes. Don't be wishy washy, if they know you are dead serious and have your mind set a lot of times they won't push you to try their brand.

My vet recommended a 3:1 ratio of white rice to boiled shredded chicken. My 65 lb. adult male is getting 2 cups total (1 1/2 cups rice and 1/2 cup shredded chicken) twice a day.
