fall harvest/1st birthday party recipes?

My son's first birthday is next week (I can't believe how fast it went) and we decided to go with a pumpkin/harvest theme.

I need food ideas!!! It's in the early afternoon so we weren't planning on heavy dinner type stuff, more snacks although if it's cool/cold I think we'll probably make a black bean chili.

My ideas so far....I ordered a carrot cake for him and I'm going to make a little pumpkin smash cake. Black bean/corn salsa, Asiago cheese dip, Apple cider and that's about as far as I got.

So what foods remind you of fall?

Anything pumpkin! I am having a Halloween party this weekend and I am making pumpkin pie dip to be served with bite size gingersnap cookies. The recipe is: 4 c. powdered sugar, 2- 8 oz packages cream cheese, 30 oz can of pumpkin pie MIX (not the plain pumpkin) and pumpkin pie spices to taste. Mix it all up and there you go!

Chili always reminds me of fall. I can't eat chili in the summer, it just doesn't seem right. Sliced apples with caramel dip are great too. And I love your apple cider idea. Sounds like you have some great stuff planned!

BTW, I'd love your recipe for Asiago cheese dip!

Make sure you use the real cream cheese, not a lesser fat version. I made this dip for my party and bought the low fat cream cheese, and it came out runny. So much for saving a few calories. Ran to the store, bought the real stuff and remade it, it was fine. Good luck!

Oh, I also substituted just the canned pumpkin (2 cans), NOT the mix, because I woundered if that was part of the problem, the mix seemed a little runny. We ended up getting lots of compliments on it. Hope you see this reply before you attempt it! Good luck!

What about soft pretzles?? Usually most of the pretzel shops do such pretty platters and most of the place usually do a nice tray for cheap. Just kinda looks fallish to me!! And they are great little snacks and my one year old adores munching on soft pretzles!!
