Bringing Second Puppy home!
Hello! I am bringing my second puppy home in about 7 weeks (torture!!!), and already have a year old girl at home. Cleo is my year old brindle girl and the light of my life and my new baby is a flashy brindle boy named Diesel. I am just wondering if anyone had some advice on introducing a second puppy into the home with a very energitic one already.

New pup
Oh boy! It sounds like lots of fun! I can't wait to hear the replies you are going to get for advice. We are thinking of getting another pup also and wondered the same thing! Our Maggie is almost 1 years old and full of energy! Good luck!

introducing a second pup
I have Kamora, she was exactly 1 year old when I picked up Khan, who was 9 weeks when I got him. The day I brought Khan home, Kamora got depressed, didnt eat much food for a couple days. She would not get mad at Khan or anything but would just mope around the house. They both slept with each other the second day. I have two seperate kennels for them. I have had some problems with both of them taking each others toys and bone and growling and biting each other. OTher than that, they eat out of different food bowls. Khan is now 14 weeks, Kamora is 13 months. They are fine together and I have no problems other than Khan wanting to play rough with Kamora and he barks.
I would suggest watching you oldest dog and slowly introduce them. I can also tell you thins, Kamora is very entergetic and Khan is more laid back. He just watches her like shes and idiot and sits there.

oh, I did not expect to hear that it would cause depression! Does anyone think it makes a difference with male and female or 2 females or 2 males? I am not sure what we should do! We have a female and a spoiled one!

Yes I am kind of expecting the 'mum has a new baby and im not the centre of attention now' face to come out. Cleo is absolutly the number one in the house and has been for a year now so I am expecting it.

Cody was almost 2 when Anaih came home. They hit it off pretty well from the beginning. I thought Cody was a wild and rambunctious until the Princess came into the picture.
There are times when Cody seems a little depressed, but we just make sure that they each get special alone attention and they also get "together lovins" too. Aniah came in at 9 weeks old and about 11 lbs and was the "BOSS". Cody accepted it and they have not had any altercations about it. They eat out of the same bowl at the same time, drink out of the same water bowl at the same time. This is their choice as there are two food bowls and two water bowls. One doesn't go anywhere without the other. They hate to have a door shut between them, they are really great companions for each other and for us as well. The most annoying thing is the jealousy between them for our attention. They never get ugly about it they just keep moving in front of one another......they will also get quite vocal.
All in all we did not have a difficult time introducing them, but my Cody loves puppies and is very gentle with them. All in all he is such a good dog and very accepting and just wants to play. I think if things had been reversed we might have had a more difficult time with the intro.
Anyway good luck I know you must be so excited.

Introduce them slowly and let them figure eachother out (under your close supervision of course). Kilby was 2.5yrs when we brought home 8wk old Kona. Kilby was a bit unsure of Kona at first and was VERY generous with her (not a peep from Kilby when Kona would steal her bed, her food, her toys, even bititing her jowls, ears and hind legs!).
We tried to keep life for Kilby as normal as possible at the start (like still walking her w/out Kona) and of course gave her the love she was used to so she didn't feel 'replaced'.
Kona was a REALLY difficult puppy but she's now 16mths and they are inseparable... we think we should have called Kona 'shadow'.
Have fun
