Congrats on the pups! They're darling, but are you *sure* they're brindle? I don't see any stripes!

Congratulations!!! I've been reading the posts and waiting for these puppies.

For some reason I thought she was only going to have two? Oh well, I'll have to stifle my curiosity until you have more time.

YAY puppies!!!

They definatley look like fawns to me as well. I was told to tell the difference is if they have black markings on their heads they will be brindles, if no markings on the heads, they are fawns.

Congrats anyway!

Hi everybody! Sorry it took so long to get back here, it's been crazy 'round here!

My mom didn't think they were brindle from the pics either, but she came over yesterday to take a quick peek and saw the stripes. For some reason, in the pictures I took you can't see the black. They have black all through their coats, evenly dispersed with the fawn, then they have black stripes down their backs (one I'm not sure of, the stripes are so faint that I think they will dissapear with age). I've taken individual pictures and I think they are a little better. I'll try to attach them...

Anyway, she finally decided to pop them out on the second day of school (my second day of work). She went into labor at 3:45am , first puppy appeared at 6:03am and last one came at 8:06am. Are you ready for this?! Puppies #1 and #2 both weighed in at
1lb 6oz! Puppies #3 and #4 weighed in at 1lb 4oz! We were getting ready to take her to the emergency clinic at 5:10am because she kept pushing with no results. But by the time we got the kids dressed and all the "just in case" supplies in the car, she gave a heave and we saw the first water bag appear. After the first two were born, of course we thought we were finished. But I felt her belly and told Craig I thought there might be another. She hadn't passed the second afterbirth, so Craig took her for a little walk outside. LOL, he said she shot it ten feet away! Then all of a sudden, I heard him yell, "make way! We got another one comin'!" She didn't start to push until I put one of the whining pups in front of her face. Then puppy three and four tried to come out at the same time! I saw a pair of hind legs and a water sac. Boy did I freak! I had no idea what to do, so I had Craig dial the emergency clinic again while I stayed in the pen with her. All went fine though, as #3 was coming out, #4's sac went back in. Then twenty minutes later, #4 finally came out. It was amazing how Zoey knew just what to do! She cleaned everything up right away and had the pen spic and span in no time! We've had a little trouble with her the last two nights, but it was our fault. We left a blanket in there for the puppies to snuggle up in. They'd crawl underneath and Zoey couldn't smell them or tell where they were so she'd lay on them. We finally realized what was wrong and took the blanket out. I have just a small mat in there now, just big enough for Mom and pups to fit on, then Craig's gonna grab a newspaper on his way home from work. So, all's well at the moment. All pups are gaining weight and looking healthy. Keep your fingers crossed for us. Oh, I sent my mom some pics of the pups and good news...we have offers on the two we didn't know about. Guess the $125 for the ultrasound wasn't worth it, huh?! LOL.

Thanks everybody for all the advice and encouragement. You've all been absolutely wonderful!!! I don't know what I would've done without you!

Here's the pics I was talking about. They still don't do the little darlings justice, but day by day the stripes seem to be getting darker so I'll take more. Let me know what you think, maybe I am mistaken. Either way, they are beautiful!

~Jody
P.S. OOPS, don't know how to attach more than one pic. Guess I'll do one at a time....

Hmm, now that I look at them again, the heads are fawn. Does this mean they will lose the dark markings? Could the black hairs that are mixed in evenly with the fawn dissapear with age...could it just be "puppy hair"?

it's hard to tell from pictures, of course, since I can't see the whole bodies, but these really do look like fawns to me. I know there is the darker hair along the spine, and mixed in with the fawn, but on brindles you can see definite tiger stripes, even in newborns.

I don't suppose the father was fawn? That would make it really easy to know for sure (At least I think so, from the pics it looks like momma is a fawn.)
