Question Sleepy Puppy!

I got Louie on Thursday night, and so far he has been a dream. Sleeping through the night, very quiet, not too many accidents.

My only concerns are that he is very difficult to rouse from sleep (sometimes even a short nap...which are numerous) and he looks like he is losing weight.

I'm not sure if the weight loss is just a figment of my imagination (I'm italian...I'm 250+ lbs and my grandmother still tells me to "eat and make-a big an strong!") but we have slightly increased his meal size from what the breeder had him on.

Is the sleep thing a breed trait, or is could it be an indication of a problem? Once he is awake and going, he is full of energy, playful and a little crazy!
Anyone have any similar experiences?

Re: Sleepy Puppy!

My puppy is 13 weeks now and he is only just starting to wake up more easily. He is actually hilarious to wake up... he won't open his eyes, he wimpers, snorts and stays totally limp. It can take a few minutes to get him fully awake.

As long as he is eating well and has lots of energy when he's up, I wouldn't be alarmed. Some puppies sleep an astonishing amount- it varies from puppy to puppy. He'll wake up soon enough and you'll want your sleepy puppy back again

If he seems lethargic when up, has a runny nose, vomitting, diarrhea etc, those are all signs that he needs to go to the vet. But just being a sleepy little puppy is a-ok! Enjoy the rest while you can!!!
