Ears
I have a question regarding ears and getting them to stand up like I see in magazines and books. I've taped them, let the vet tape them, and now considering "tent-ups." Its been approx. 1 month. What is the time frame? Please give me help on how to make this work with "Diesel." He has the show cut and they look great for approx. 2 days and start falling and looking real weak. Help please.

How old is he? Only 1 month of taping actually isn't very long.
Some stand more quickly than others. It could be several months before they will actually STAY standing on their own.
You MUST retape them when they fall back down. You can NOT wait 1 day, as if you wait, you undo everything.
When he teeths, the ears will fall also.
Mitzi & Laci's ears stood within 2 months.
Junior - has a longer crop - I taped 1 ear for almost a year.

Sabrina, thanks for the advice. So many people have told me that it only takes two weeks and that it shouldn't take longer. You are the first person that gave me the truth. Thanks again and I will keep you posted.

Two weeks? Bah! Maybe for a short pitbull crop, but not for the long, elegant show crops. My latest puppy took about 2 months, which was nothing short of miraculous for us, but I credit it to the raw diet. My middle boy (kibble-fed) took about 6 months.
Sabrina is right, never leave the ears down for more than a day until they are firmly standing (we usually don't leave them down more than overnight anymore). Then as soon as they start to fall, tape them again.
They will fall during teething (so will the feet), you can give Vitamin C to help, but it does pass.

It took one month for Gibsons ears to stand up. The way the vet did it was to cut a long diamond shaped pieces of 1/2 inch foam and glued them to the inside of the ears then wrapped tape around his ears and whole head, complete with a tape chin strap. It looked like a swim cap with pointy ears. He would roll on his head and paw at it but he couldn't get it off. It was soooo funny looking and all the dogs at dog school made fun of him. I felt really bad but it was funny. He looked like a Bunny/Dog!! Once his tapings were done I would hold him in my lap and massage his ears inside and out for about 20mins per ear twice a day to increase the blood circulation, which I heard would help with making them stand up. He loved that! Gibsons ears turned out perfect!
If I had to do it over I wouldn't. The only way I would do it again would be if I got a show dog. Its hard on the dog and owner, mostly you little doggie child!
Good Luck!!!

Hannah's took about 3 months to look decent and then another month to get them right followed by taping the edges for a couple weeks. We were wrapping her ears every day, Daisy would try ripping the tape off.
We are going to have the pups ears done and are looking for advice on how anyone else got them to stand. We used popsicle sticks and a cotton ball last time. I have heard of using a tampon and a couple other schemes.
Thanks

check out how they tape the dogs ears up. It is a different approach than sticks and tape. I'm going to give it a try when the pups ears are done.

Puppies ears
Greg, I have been using that same method of ear tapeing, with the pipe foam for years and have had great success, I highly recommend it, any questions with it feel free to ask. one tip remember to stretch ear before tapeing. Good luck. Cindy

We used the tampons on Brighid and they worked great. One tip with those is to wrap tape sticky side out all the way around the tampon before you put it in. That way you can stretch the ear up onto it an it sticks while you tape the outside of the ear.
