Why Vet's Disapprove?

Mentioned in one of my other posts regarding a BARF diet, why do veterinarian's disapprove of the BARF diet? I was going to call my vet to see if he would recommend this switch for my pets, but now I'm afraid to call. If I switch against his recommendation and then something is wrong with one of them, won't he blame the raw diet?

Yes, he probably will. And of course, if the dog came in with the exact same problem and was still being kibble-fed, he would not dream of blaming the kibble.

Most vets do not have a real understanding of canine nutritional needs. They take one or zero classes on it in vet school, but they receive several "perks" from pet food manufacturers, both during school and in practice. It's no wonder they follow the party line that raw food is bad for dogs - they've been brainwashed into believing it!

There was a discussion a while back, started by a vet student who asked what pet owners wanted from their veterinarians. She outlined her experience and it is quite disturbing! I believe it was in the Health forum, but a search should pull it up.

Most vets sell dog food in their practice, they do this not because the feel it is a good food but because they receive kickbacks or other perks from the company. When feeding this diet you just have to stand your ground. If something were to happen to your baby and let's say they need a special kibble, don't sweat it you can still make your own food with BARF. There are so many groups and sites out there with BARF info and how you can manipulate it to deal with certain illnesses or dieases that you won't need special kibble. Trust me if you make the switch and see how much better your babies look and how much happier they are, dealing with the others who try to put you down is no big deal Like I said before Rocks was at the vet multiple times a week and every since he was switched a few months ago he hasnt' been back since.

I took my puppy to the vet today and mentioned that i feed both my dogs the barf diet...she asked me why? and followed that with "you wouldnt eat raw food so why feed it to your dogs" I bit my lip and avoided the argument that i dont walk on all fours either....oh well i know the results that barf has had on my dogs...good!
