Unhappy

My dog has had numerous allergy problems and we believe he is allergic to at least chicken and wheat (and possibly lamb). So we avoided the usual lamb/rice diet and fed him waifcol fish/corn kibble. He then became thin as he did not find this particularly appertising so I relented and he exists on minced beef and porridge with a bowl of cornflakes for supper! I have to cook the meat as raw does not appear to agree with him. The problem is that he has recently started to eat small stones and I am wondering whether his diet meets his needs and whether I should add anything - can anyone help?

I would certainly discourage the eating of stones, they could get stuck in the stomach and cause all sorts of problems.

I would suspect that your boxer is not getting enough vitamins and minerals. You need to add fruit and vegetables to Henry's diet. Grind the vegetables(no onions) up in food processor or blender before feeding. They are more digestible that way. I really don't know alot about the BARF diet. Check out the link below, it gives a lot of good information. Also go to the Recipes link on the Home page it will give you a couple of ideas as well.

Good luck with Henry!!

YOU MAY WANT TO GET DR.PITCAIRNS BOOK "nATURAL hEALTH FOR CATS AND DOGS. IT HAS WONDERFUL RECIPES FOR DOGS ALSO A VITAMIN MIX TO ADD TO FOOD. MY BOXER IS ON THE DIET AND IS DOING GREAT. SHE IS ALLERGIC TO TURKEY AND BREAKS OUT IN HIVES.I HIGHLY RECCOMEND THIS BOOK IT ALSO HAS HOMEOPATHIC REMEDIES WHICH I HAVE USED WITH EXCELLENT RESPONSE. GOOD LUCK.

Definitely add fruits and vegetables, and a source of calcium is must! (Unless the beef mince you're feeding includes bones.)

I would certainly recommend either Dr. Pitcairn's book or Dr. Billinghurst's if you want to give raw another try.
