needing variety
Ok, so Tyson needs variety I know. I may have found a supplier for raw. Would duck necks, fresh pig ears, beef trim, fresh cow hooves, fresh chicken feet be ok for him? Not too sure about the chicken feet though. This site has rabbit too. I can get alot of stuff from my butcher. But mostly pork, beef, chicken. They may have turkey also. Do I avoid wings? Thinking perhaps so due to the bones being so small.
thanks everyone

I would look out for the fresh cow hooves. I tried one and once they worn it down a little bit you could actually smell cow pasture!! Stinky!

Gas?
Hi, Shouldn't the raw diet do away with the gas? That's what everything I've been reading says.

It depends on what raw diet you are feeding. Homecooking, barf, and prey model are all under that category, but most speak about the prey model when talking of diminishing gas.
I don't ever feed the wings. They get pitched. Some do use the wings as the bone content of a meal. I just don't keep them cause they get gross before I have to use them.

Duck necks ok as the bone content portion or frozen as a snack/chew treat would be ok and then a meat-only meal that day. Beef trim is good if only meat. But a lot of it is just fat or fatty meat and probably give them the runs or worse yet, set off pancreatitis if too much fat is given. Some use cow hooves, some abhore them. I just don't even think about them cause its kinda too gross for me to handle. Some give chicken feet. I'd think it's another chew toy option and not for any benefit except teeth cleaning.

Thanks LilyLarue. Wasn't sure about the wings or chicken feet. I'm thinking the feet may gross me out a little. With yet another consumer complaint filed (Nutro) makes me want to do all raw even more. I'll have to do some of the grind type for the kids. In case they would need to feed him.

Stella loves chicken feet - someone on here a couple years ago would freeze them and give them as chewy treats - they called them "footsickles."

Thanks StellaBee for the input on the feet. I'll have to really think about that one. I can do legs, necks and such, but to see him chewing on a chicken foot, I don't know LOL! I'm going to have to try to find another freezer for just him. But then I'll have to clean out my basement so I can put it down there.

As additions to a diet, the things you mention should be fine. As the whole diet though? Absolutely not. Nothing you mention there (feet, ears, necks, wings, trim) contains any meat. Raw diets can and should contain many things that modern human diets shun (to their detriment), but it is not a case of just feeding dogs on the trash. They still need good quality meat and offal. If you're giving other things on top of that, fine. If not, its not a whole lot better than byproducts in the lowest grade kibble.
As for gas - yes, generally that diminishes significantly on raw. I won't bother speaking of BARF versus prey model, as to do so would be to concentrate on the extremes and ignore about 90% of raw feeders (i.e. it is beyond irrelevant), and hence 90% of dogs and their gas.
