Happy Beagle Passed (long)
These people I know (and am kinda ashamed to admit it actually) have a fenced in yard but never keep there dogs in it. One is a large mixed and the other is a beagle. They live approx. 1/2mile from our "town." Every night on my way home from work the beagle crosses two lanes of traffic and walks along the shoulder of the road smiling, I kid you not this dog can smile. He goes up town to the local tavern who gives him steaks, burgers, etc. He crosses the highway again to go home, this dog has done this every single day for years. Unfortunately this morning when I went to work I saw he had been hit and was lying off to the side of the road. My heart literally broke and I cried all the way to work. The sad part is I dont think his owners will miss him as much as the people who had to stop and wait for him every day to cross the road. It make me so mad that somebody couldn't have slowed down and waited another 20seconds for him to waddle (he's very overweight) to cross the road safely. I wanted to go leave a note for his owners who were gone to work already to let them know there dog was hit, but I didnt know how to do it nicely. I would have taken him home, but unfortunately I dont have seats that big in my Jeep. I just feel so bad and want to wish this beagle the best life at the bridge. I hope he finds good people there who will lavish him with the steaks and burgers he was use to down here. (BTW on NewYrs night he was at the tavern eating tacos somebody gave him-eewwww.) Rest in peace buddy and smile on-you were the cutest and I"ll miss not seeing you and waving to you every day. You were like our town mascot and you will be missed but never replaced.
