We had to put our baby down last night.

I haven't been in here in so long, I just didn't know where to go

I'm a mess. I haven't slept at all. Sadie has had digestive issues all her life (her whole 5 1/2 years). We just assumed she had a sensitive stomach. Every now and again she'd get into something, go the vet, get some x rays and she'd pass it and all would be well again.

So the last few months we had problems keeping weight on her and just when we thought we'd be in the clear she'd have another episode where she'd start vomitting, stop eating and lose all the weight again. It got really bad the past couple days and yesterday morning she threw up a bunch of water, she was so skinny and I was really worried about her getting dehydrated and she just wasn't her normal spunky self. Vet did x-rays, saw what looked like a blockage but said the films weren't as clear as she'd like and referred us to the emergency vet. At the e vets they took some blood and everything looked good except her wbc, which was high. They wanted to do a barium series, it showed she had a partial blockage in her colon, some of the barium was getting through but the vet was really concerned. They called at 2 am to let us know they were taking her into surgery. Vet called again around 4 am and said that all of her intestines and organs were twisted and she could keep trying to fix it but she feared that even if she did, Sadie would not survive for very long and she'd be in a lot of pain. So we made the decision to humanely put her down.

I don't know how to tell my four year old. He hasn't asked about her today. He does know she's at the doggie hospital. I dont know how our other dog max will do w/o out her, he seems so lonely this morning.

it wasn't supposed to happen like this. she was so scared last night, she didnt want to leave my side. I didn't say good bye like I should have, I thought I'd see her again. I hate that's my last memory.

Unhappy in tears ~

i know the heartbreak u are feeling right now. I just had to make the hardest choice of my life , my Huckelberry got sick - stopped eating , took him to the e vet (advanced cancer ) that happened in 3 days , we didnt see it coming - I had to let him go, my daughter (14) did come home from school to go to vet with me ( i knew it wasnt good ) and we kinda got to say good bye ~ but wow - the hurt ! i am crying as i write this - thinking of ur pain n ur familys !

we can only think of them running free at the bridge and know they are no longer in pain !
may god bless u and ur family ~

Samson and the Anderson Family are sending many healing (((vibes ))) ur way and our prayers for a speady recovery of your heart and your familys !

So sorry for your loss. It is sad that you did not get a chance to say goodbye, but you did the right thing by saving sweet Sadie from any more pain and suffering. I'm sure she knows and understands. Run-free Sadie!

Putting your baby down is the last thing you want to do. I eventually had to do it this past weekend a week ago today. I promised I would keep Tyson comfy and on meds till he went but it had to go the way I said I didn't want it to go. Sometimes you have to make that choice but in the end you did the best thing a best friend would do. But it leaves us in pain.
In the end you made the best choice and let her go. I'm very sorry for your family and your loss.
