Oh my gosh... I am so, SO sorry to hear this Poor Aspen. I'm glad you found another vet that was able to give him a proper diagnosis. My heart goes out to you and your family.

I'm glad you got a proper diagnosis, but I'm so very sorry the news wasn't better. Spoil Aspen more so than he already is and enjoy every last minute with him. I lost my first boxer this summer and I, too, remember how tough it was to hear the news that my baby's days were numbered. It's a devastating blow and I will most definitely keep you and Aspen in my thoughts and prayers.

Was just wondering if they mentioned any treatment, biopsy or removal of this mass? The reason I'm asking is because my cousins son (skin baby) was diagnosed with large mass and doc said where it was located there was nothing that could be done. They told it was most definately not treatable and probably cancer. He didn't give up and finally found a doctor that would take a biopsy....It was not a tumor at all and was not malignant. It was a big pocket of infection that somehow had massed together. They gave him antibiotics, it gone and he is fine. I know dogs and people are different but was just wondering if anything at all was suggested.

Hi all,
I just wanted to come back and give a final update. Upon further investigation, I better understood that the mass they found was not on the lung but rather in an area of the chest where there should really be nothing. It was also determined to be metastatic and we saw that Aspen had cancer in other places as well. With him having been unable to eat for over a week, we made the very difficult decision to put him to sleep.

Thursday, we brought him home from the vet. We were able to give him very small bits of mushy food and small doses of water all day Friday while our kids (and us) spent our last bit of time with him. Friday night, we brought all of the kids and our other boxer to our room and had a slumber party on the floor with Aspen. He was loved and cuddled all night while our kids laughed, remembered, sobbed, and said goodbye. Saturday morning, my husband and I did the hardest thing we've ever had to do and took our beautiful boy to the vet where we held him while he left us peacefully.

We're still in shock at how suddenly this all happened. Two weeks ago, he seemed fine. He was truly the most loving, loyal, and special dog you could imagine. He will be forever missed by our family and all who knew him. I'm thankful for the time we had with him even if it was shorter than we ever imagined or wanted. We will certainly treasure the time that we now have with our other boxer (6 yo Enya) even more. Thanks for your advice, thoughts, and prayers. Hug your boxer babies a little extra today!

I am SO sorry for your loss. I am glad he did not seem to suffer though and that you all were able to have that closure and happy memory in saying goodbye. Enjoy the Rainbow Bridge buddy!

Just found this thread. I am so very sorry for your loss.
I know the shock you are feeling when you go from having a healthy happy boy to losing him in such a short time. It is very overwhelming.
I feel your pain and disbelief at what has happened.
Godspeed sweet Aspen. Your family will never forget you.
My thoughts and prayers to you and your family during this time.

I am so, so sorry about your loss of Aspen. It is very difficult to deal with loosing our babies. How is your other boxer taking it? We lost our Chloe back in August almost the same way. (she was 4) Please know that your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
