Unhappy Trace crossed the bridge yesterday

It is with a heavy heart that I report that yesterday morning Norm and I lost our best friend, our white boxer Trace. We had just returned from a walk, and Norm had put all three dogs out in the back yard with a big bowl of water. Minutes later, I went to call them in and noticed Tracer asleep under the apple tree. When she didn't respond to my calls, we rushed out to her. As Norm scooped her up, she rolled her eyes up at him and sighed her last sigh. She was not breathing nor had a pulse, but we raced her to the vet where our fears were confirmed. Cardiomyopathy is common in the boxer breed, and it is suspected that this condition is what caused her sudden collapse.

With the help of some good friends, she's buried near that same apple tree. While I am glad that she didn't suffer and never had to suffer through the aches and pains of growing old, I'm crushed to lose my beloved dog. In time the tears will stop, but my heart will be heavy for some time. Our other female Mella is lost without her. She about broke my heart this morning as she checked the beds in the other bedrooms before going outside. Mella has repeatedly "asked" to go outside-- only to wander about the yard. She stands on the disturbed earth that beneath lies our Tracer, and looks pleadingly back at me. If it wasn't for Odin, our 1 y/o male, I don't think we'd get through this. He's been extra loving and has been very attentive to Mella. This is the same dog who would howl in his crate if she was not in her crate beside him!

I've loved and lost pets before, but never have I been so crushed.

I am so indredibly sorry to hear of your sudden loss of Trace. When they are taken so quickly it is hard to comprehend.

Thank you for sharing your story and how wonderful that you honored her at the apple tree. I would imagine it would be difficult to look at that tree and remember that that is where she left you but in another way, you can look at that tree and know that is where she is still with you.

I am so sorry for Mella's loss as well but glad that Odin can be there for her.

Trace, please say hello to Porter for us.

Hugs to you all, Lissa

I'm so sorry about your loss. I know that it's really hard right now and it seems as if things will never be "normal" again, but in time you will realize that they never really leave us. Trace will be by your side and in your hearts and memories forever. My thoughts are with you. Run free Trace and do some "boxer burns" with my sweet Indigo when you cross the bridge.
