monty..passed away..07.09.2009..aged 10

last posted about monty awhile ago....he was staggering abit and was precribed prednoleuc...well he was fine on this a while but we new he had to come off it a few days at a time otherwise it would stop working.
last week i stopped it for a few days...and he started to go down hill....suddenly stopping for a few minutes while on walks,,,panting,,,,then this got to him just laying down and refusing to move.
last saturday night he wanted to go out in the early hours and after a few mins when he didnt come back in, i found him sat on the lawn unable to move...it took an hour to get him back in,....its been awful....he was so happy....eating playing with his sibling Sophie...just unable to get up....only able to shuffle on his front paws. after 24 hours of not being able to go to the toilet, my daughter and i managed to hold him up where he just flooded everywhere...he was distressed...such a clean boy....we called our vet but it was out of hours and we were refered to a locum 24 hour service....they were wonderful....they were busy but sent a pet ambulance out to bring him in......we were allowed as much time as we wanted with him...i really wish it had been at home...but it was so peaceful for him....he licked my hand which will always be a precious memory,,,,rest in peace my darling boy...ten years 3 months....love you always

My heart goes out to you and your family, losing such a special boy who fought so bravely to stay with you. Your loving care of him and his strong spirit gave him some good time with you. thank you for all your messages...i'm so grateful to you for taking the time to reply....it;s really helped me.....while i know i really had no choice but to do what had to be done,,,,i feel so guilty because he was so healthy otherwise...he was so alert...eye sight wonderful as his hearing....coat so glossy...so , so playful...eating for england....it was so hard but he was so distressed in the last hours trying to get up on his legs....dont know what caused this deteriation so quickly...at least i know there was nothing more that could be done to help him....just waiting to get his ashes home now....i've been looking through photo albums of him...bless you darling...such a great character...never, ever will you be out of my thoughts....thank you all again

Just found your post and I'm so very sorry about your sweet boy Monty. Tears in are my eyes and I can't imagine your pain right now. But I do believe that you made the right decision and Monty would not want to live his life like that. I think he was telling you that it was his time. Once again my heartfelt sympathy. Hugs.
