I'm glad Jack Jack made you smile! I'm so sorry about the circumstances surrounding Beau Beau. My friend has a boxer with aggression issues. She was adament about being able to train her and modify her behaviour, etc. She happened upon an article written by Dr. Jean Dodds regarding thyroid issues in dogs and how it can cause aggression. She contacted Dr. Dodds and arranged to have her dog's blood sent to Dr. Dodds for testing. My friend's dog was diagnosed with Canine Autoimmune Thyroid disease. One of the biggest problems with this disease is the aggression it causes. I'm really not sure where to locate the article but perhaps if you do a search you might find it. It sounds to me like Beau Beau was behaving exactly as my friend's boxer did. I say "did" because since she has been on medication her "melt downs" are few and far between. This is just food for thought of course because I would hate to think that just because he was a singleton that was the reason for his behaviour. I hope you're feeling better these days. You did the right thing for Beau Beau.

Tears flowing, I had to put an aggressive boxer girl down, also...

I'm so very sorry about Beau-Beau... My Lady girl got aggressive too, I loved her so much and still DO every single day I think of her... and How Rocky misses her... if we talk about her and say her name, he looks at us with his head cocked to one side, like ' I remember that name '... Lady attacked and killed one of our other dogs... We had no idea what her temperment was, she was an adult stray we took in, but we loved her unconditionally for 7 months until that day when I had shopping and errands to do... it was a horrible day, one I would take back if only I knew... If only I had seperated the 2 girls... I know some of your pain because I had to make that exact same decision and the only easy part about it was that I had to think of my kids and my other 2 dogs 1st, not knowing if she would do it again, I couldn't take that chance... I still dont hold her responsible for what happened, and I still look at her pictures every few days, she was so loving, but her heat was right around the corner and I think with other issues it was just too much... If I knew what 'set her off' I might've been able to work with her, but I wasn't here to see any of it... anyways... I'm so very sorry about your boy, my prayers go to you and your wife in getting thru the hard time of grieving,,, it's been 7 months since Lady-girl was put down and I still shed a tear for my girl...

I hope all the happy memories flood you both and that you smile soon from all of his days with you both...

you both truely did everything you could to do your best for him... you both are amazing... I hope one day another boxer baby will get the chance to know the love you both have to give...

Run free Beau-Beau and give my Lady-girl a good romp around, keep up with her if you can, she's a fast one... xo

You know, as we searched for answers the professionals we spoke with all said the same thing, that Beau's aggression is probably a genetic thing, not something that we did or didn't do, you do ask yourself though.

Our behaviorist said to us at our first meeting that we had done an amazing job with Beau, wished that all her clients worked with their dogs as we had, and addressed those concerns with singletons very well. We don't think Beau's aggression is a result of being a singleton, but rather genetics.

That being said, a word of caution for those who are going to raise a single pup from birth, they do need special attention because they are at risk of various problems. That doesn't mean all dogs raised as singletons will be problematic, I'm certain many have done just fine. In our case, a better situation would have been to keep the entire litter together and raised until 8 to 10 weeks before seperating, would have been benificial to all the pups. Oh imagine what a handful that would have been.

Thank you for your comments, if I ever have another Boxer, I think I'll name him Jack-Jack.

I certainly hope that one day you open your heart to another boxer. And I know my Jack Jack would be proud if you used his name!

(as a side note - my friend who breeds boxers called me the other day and said, "you have to come and see my eight little "not Jack's"-she had 8 dark brindle puppies born! They're adorable!)

Oh my gosh, my jaw hit my keyboard as I read your post, that must have been terrible. Not only did you loose one to the attack then having to make the decision about Lady. How painful, sorry you had to go through that.

My wife and I are doing better and this forum has been very helpful for us. All the support here has been fabulous. We have friends and family who never saw that aggressive side of Beau that just could not understand how we could euthanize him. I can understand them feeling that way, all they ever saw was this well behaved, friendly, playful, obedient and unique dog that could do all kinds of cool tricks. The support here just somehow helps. Thank you everyone!!!

No one who has not loved with an aggressive dog can ever understand the stress, pain, and sadness that comes with it. I would not wish it on anyone. I believe you showed such strength and compassion throughout yor ordeal. Beau-Beau, and the next boxer who steals your heart, are lucky to have you as a family

Hello everyone my name Cathy ,Beau Beau's Mama,I cannot express to you how much all of you have helped DH & I through the pain of losing our beloved Beau Beau, there have been days when I cannot even function the pain in my heart has been unbearable
I know my heart will heal, that is one reason why we made the decision we made a child may never heal, their mind from a dog bite & I beleive Beau could have done some major damage
This is the first time in our lives we are without a child or animal living in our home the house is empty but the memories of our Beau the good boy remain forever
Boxer truely are a special breed & the people here at Boxer World are very special people
Thank you all for your support during our difficult time

Cathy - There is no need to thank us - that is why we are here. When a Boxer is lost here, it is like losing one of our own, and we all mourn for the loss.
One point you made is so absolutley true - Boxers are a very special breed and so are the people that are owned by them.
Hugs.....
