My Sweet Petey Baby

It has taken me three months to reach the point to be able to write about Petey's passing.

Petey was a stray that had come into rescue with injuries to his hip, two other families had given up on him, but after FHO surgery and 8 weeks of recovery, he came to live with my husband, myself and our older male boxer named Stymie on Mothers Day 2001. He was my little white clown baby, so different from Stymie, but all boxer. He was afraid of the vinyl floor in our laundry room, so I had to take all the bath mats in the house and put them down in the laundry room, every week I would take one up until he would walk across the bare floor. He would search the banks of the lake to find the nastiest old dead fish to eat (or bury for later) and dare you to try and take it away from him. His favorite spot in the world
was sitting in Baxter's lap in the recliner, he would look up at you as if saying "I am King" and then settle down and fall asleep.

Petey had many challenges in his life, Mast cell tumors (3 surgeries), Kidney disease, Emergency room visits, Liver disease, Heart murmur and we almost lost him in the fall of 05, but he fought back with all he could. Last fall Petey started drinking up to 26 cups of water a day. After 6 months of testing, ultrasounds and accupuncture, Petey's final diagnosis was a brain tumor. He again fought a hard battle, but walking and breathing became hard for him, and then he stopped eating. We even tried ensure because of his water drinking, but on Feb 5, 2008 we helped him into a peaceful sleep. It was a beautiful rare warm day in February, warm sunny sky, we were outside on a blanket, he just went into a peaceful sleep.

I think of him everyday and miss him more than I could ever imagine, but I know that he is now peaceful and running free with no pain.

I love you Petey

I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet Petey . How lucky he was to have found a loving family and a forever home with you and your husband, and how lucky you were to have him. Petey's time with you will forever live in your heart and your memories. May your pain of loss ease as you share memories with those of us who so love our beloved babies, both here and at the bridge. I wish you peace. ((((((((hugs))))))

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too.
