Merry Christmas Gertie

I didn't want to let this day end without writing a special note to my beloved Gertie.

Dear Gertie-

Today, I wished so badly that you were here to share in the traditions of Christmas with me and your Grandmom and Great Grandmom. When I took you in at the beautiful silver age of somewhere between 8 and 10, I understood it might be a possibility that I wouldn't have you for many years, but I never expected our time to be so short. You've now been gone as long as I had you, three months. Your beautiful pictures sit right next to your ashes watching the door so I can see you every time I come into the house. What I miss most is your smiling face when I come in from work; I have never seen a dog smile like that and it made me feel so special. Because I knew you would miss out Christmas, I tried to give you everything possible before you had to cross the bridge; I sure hope that got everything in. I know you had a paw in bringing Snubby to me to help ease the pain of losing you so soon and I am grateful for that. She is wonderful, but she is no you and I still find myself missing you, especially now when I think of how happy you would have been to celebrate with us. I know you will be waiting for me as I will be for you. I keep you in my heart always and promise never ever to forget you. Thank you for the three months of love and companionship you gave to me, I love you baby girl. Merry Christmas!

Re: Merry Christmas Gertie

April-

Your note to Gertie touched my heart. Thank you for giving this girl such an amazing three months. So often the silver babies live out their lives in fosters becuase noone wants to open their heart. Well Gerdie knew she had an amazing mommy and although she physically was not with you on Christmas I am sure she is watching over you and Snubby. Thank you for opening your heart to her.

lots of boxer smooches from Bradlee, Cylis and my Pudgey how is romping with Gertie.

Re: Merry Christmas Gertie

Hi, April.

Just wanted to say that I am so sorry that Gertie left you so soon. I cried when I saw her memorial posted on the boxer rescue website in September 2006. (We adopted our Boxer, Lizzie, from the same rescue in 2004 and I check the site daily.)

Gertie was very lucky to have such a wonderful person in her life; very few people would ever adopt a senior dog like you. Best wishes for you, Snubby and your family in 2007. Gertie is your special angel who will always be with you in spirit.

Merry Christmas sweet, Gertie.
