Unhappy playing with adult dogs???

i was wondering....
do you let your pups play with adult dogs of any breed?
i want Keeroff to become a very socialized dog, but im always worried that an adult dog might hurt him during playing.
Keeroff loves all the dogs we meet outside and pulls the leash like crazy to approach them, but some of them doesnt like him!
for example, a week ago we met a bullmastiff-pit bull mix(HUGE male dog) who wasnt shaking his tail to Keeroff.
they were sniffing each other until Keeroff put his paw on the other dog's face. so the other dog got mad and growled at him! i was scared to death.... and we just took off.
yesterday, we met a male 5 year old bulldog. the bulldog was off leash and i kept Keeroff on the leash. they sniffed each other and Keeroff tried to get on the bulldogs face at once!!! the bulldog was not shaking his tail, and he didnt like Keeroff. he was playing with wood pieces so, i didnt let Keeroff off leash in case the bulldog thought that my baby would try to steal the pieces of wood he had in mouth. later, they were sniffing each other for a second and when Keeroff made a move towards him, he growled at Keeroff!!!!
grrrrrrrr!!!! why do they growl at a baby???????????

do you let your puppies play with adult dogs off leash?
do you have any bad experiences?

what if he gets bitten from another dog??
he s a puppy... it will be too serious
i remember almost 3 weeks ago he was playing with an adult female german shephard. and they were playing sooooo nice. she was actually protecting him!
unfortunately he hasnt had the chance to play free off leash with another dog again...

oh! 4 weeks ago he had played with a 5 month old male pug. but i didnt worry because he was too small to hurt Keeroff.

Smile Why they are growling at a puppy

Lets just say that their is a cute little kid that walks up to you smiling and you say hi and the kid hits you in the face or jumps on your foot, are you going to laugh about it? probably not, you would probably get upset or at least say something. Your pup isn't showing good manners for a first time meeting to older dogs, that is why they are growling at him it dosen't matter that he is a puppy, they think he should know better, witch he probably should, or else he will learn real quick.

Donte is allowed to play with Johnny & his parents when we visit his breeders, but that's it. I won't let him around other adult dogs.

no, i wouldnt get upset to a little kid......
what would you do? yell at a kid for playing????
anyway, this is not an answer to my questions. this is just you saying that my puppy is spoiled and doesnt have good manners.
and what do you mean "he will learn real quick" ?

this is not an answer.

Smile Dog talk

I didn't mean that your dog is a spoiled brat, I ment that he dosen't have good manners yet ( towards dogs, not people, there are different sets of rules ) It is nothing against you, you probably can't fully teach him what he needs to know about that kind of thing, its dog talk - he will learn from other dogs with your help. He is a puppy and he dosen't know yet.
I ment that "he will learn real quick" as if you keep introducing him to new dogs, this will keep happening and with your help he will hopfully learn that other dogs don't like to be jumped on by a dog that they are not yet familiar/comfortable with.
I didn't mean any offense
Also about the kid thing, I ment that you would probably tell the kid that they shouldn't do that because people don't like to be hit, You would correct him, the same as what the other dogs are doing to your dog, but sometimes they are not as nice as you would be to a child, alot of dogs arn't that sympathetic towards youngen's

see? this one is an answer to my thread. and thank you for it
i think Keeroff is too confident. he gets sooooo exited when he sees any other dog that he wants immediately to start playing.

Unless it is another Boxer. most dogs do not understand how boxer pups play. All they see is that paw coming at them and they respond in the only way they know. FInd other boxers for your puppy to play with. That will solve the whole problem. Boxers undertand.

I think it is a good thing that you are trying to introduce your puppy to adult dogs. We learned in puppy class that usually when the adult dogs are growling and such it is because the puppy is misbehaving in their eyes. Puppy class was a great place to expose Trixie to other dogs and help her learn how to behave around them. We just had her spayed, when she's done healing I'm also hoping to enroll her in Day Care once or twice a week to help socialize her.

It's hard when you're introducing them to other dogs on your own because it's hard to read the other dogs. You want them to get familiar but you don't want your baby to get hurt. I wish I had an expert with me so they could tell me when things are about to get out of hand.

Good luck!

exactly!
unfortunately i have no friends with dogs at Corfu.....
so the only dogs Keeroff meets are the dogs we meet during our walks outside. fortunately, i have friends with dogs in Athens(i will be moving there in January) but the bad thing will be that Keeroff will be 6 months old and he will be playing more rough than now. :/
anyway, good luck on your girl's socialization too!

i was so excited!!!
i wish i would have met him at a park or something.but it was at the vet's so they didnt really have the time and the space and the chance to play free.
