I agree its alot like your skin kids......

I love my kids and want to protect them but I did not keep them home and away from others. They were at the park, in the yard and at other peoples houses, and even eating dirt at some of those times Luckily here, I've never ever heard of Parvo being a problem.
Everyone should do what makes them comfortable. I just happen to be comfortable with letting my puppy out, those first 4 months were the best watching Eddie play with the kids in the yard and with our friends dog! I also found the first four months important in teaching Eddie manners with other people and walking on a leash.

There is a middle ground. I wouldn't take a
puppy to a public park or out on public sidewalks,
but I would definitely take one to friends' houses
(especially those with dogs whose health care
I feel confident about). I also put mine in
puppy K at the 10-12 week period, because I'm
comfortable with the overall cleanliness of the
facility, and feel the social benefits outweigh
the health risks.

I won't take them to dog shows or the vet unless
absolutely necessary, though. And ESPECIALLY not
places like Petsmart, which seems to be where a lot
of people go to show off their new puppies

Question excercise?

I understand excercise is very important for any dog, especially large ones the size of boxers. I live in Long Island, and my backyard isn't that big. I was looking foward to taking my boxer for long walks as soon as she gets her 2nd booster. I believe the vet said after the 2nd one I could take her out.

Here in UK that's the case. Belle had her 2nd vaccination last week and can go out this week. I just love walking my boxers, you enjoy him

Question question?

Just wondering if this would make a difference......would where you live, climate I mean, make a difference? If you are somewhere where you have cold weather/winter for 6 months of the year, would that mean the virus would not be so easily transferred? I have never heard of any parvo here where I live. I live in a small town, surrounded by small towns and farms in Ontario Canada.

I think if you live in a city such as New York, where there are many stray dogs then diseases such as parvo can spread. However, if you live in a surburban area where there are no stray dogs and all of your neighbors take good care of their pets then I think you should be OK. Im not sure about farms, I dont know if Parvo or other diseases spread via other animals besides dogs.

I think you have a point there, there are no stray dogs around here and I would say 99% of dogs are inoculated. We do have quite alot of foxes as we live by open countryside and I do believe they could be carriers but as long as your dog is inoculated there shouldn't be a problem. I should imagine the situation to be different in a big city and there I would be extra vigilant.

Douma thanks I will tell her. She is going to update the website very soon as the pups have now gone to their new homes apart from little Belle who we're keeping. We have lots more pictures to add to it.

I went to the vet today. My dog got her second booster. He said he would feel alot more comfortable if we waited for the third booster. He gives those when she is about 3 1/2 months old he said. Again, my backyard is not big and I want to make sure my dog gets all the excercise she needs. Any ideas?
