PetsMart

We take Legend to PetsMart every weekend...we usually need something anyway (dog food, cat treats, etc etc) and its a great place to socialize him.

He can interact with other people, other animals (not just dogs...Legend met a 4 foot iguana last weekend) and he's getting used to the sights, sounds and smells of the outside world.

Plus...you can get your shopping done all at the same time!!

Taking Megan into Petco is almost a nightmare. She just wants to play with everyone and sniff all the treats. I did it once all by myself, never again. She walks in the door and becomes a monster.

I take Tucker with me whenever I go to Petco too. He loves the car ride to get there and all the attention he gets while he's there. He's met a GSD, a papillon, a lab, and a min pin. It's also helpful that I can try collars and the like on him before I buy them to make sure they fit.

Oh, and he knows where the toy aisle is too!!

Cool Picks Her Own Toys

We take Cherokee to PetSmart also. We usually go for her vet visits since they're there as well. We go early so we can get some shopping done. She doesn't like being in the cart and jumped out once so now we just walk with her. On her last visit we were walking around looking for some new things for our baby girl and she decided to do some shopping of her own. Here we are just walking around and we look down and Cherokee has a huge stuffed bone perfectly settled between her teeth. It was the cutes thing. So we figured why not. What better toy than the one she picks herself. So now the new plan is whenever we go shopping for Cherokee we'll let her pick her own toys. She totally loves that bone and I'm forever having to sow it shut. Cherokee is a flashy fawn female of 4 months.

RE: Classes

My wife and I take Bosco to their puppy classes. Tomorrow is week #4. So far, so good. It is VERY basic, but probably a good idea. He was far ahead of the other dogs in week #2. But now he seems to be learning. They offer other classes as well that I may have to do.

Talk to them about it. Naturally, it will be a bit biased, yet still informative. I think that my wife and I have learned as much as Bosco. They do a good job.

Cool

We still are awaiting the arrival of Mickey, but were in PetsMart last weekend for stuff for the new (4 wk old, motherless) kitten and ran into their trainer. She was VERY personable and VERY helpful. We were going to wait until Mickey was 3 months old to go to class, but she said that the pups benefit from the training right away. Better to learn the right behaviour than unlearn the bad stuff. We agreed and Mickey will begin classes on the 6th of October. We pick him up on the 28th of September. We'll keep you posted on how we like the classes, but I'm pumped!
