3 month old is kinda mean

Our new 3 month old puppy plays alot with our 5 year old boxer. However, she has really chewed up his muzzle and left cuts all over his chin. I have tried disciplining her when I see her do it, but I am not with them 24/7. He is obviously 10 times her size and could put her in her place. Will he have to finally make her stop on his own, or should I keep trying to intervene? They don't actually fight, it is all play, but I really don't like seeing my Frank all beat up!

I am having the same issues with my 2, Ollie is 3 months and Bruiser is 2 and a half. They play really rough, Ollie will literally hang off of his muzzle and neck with his mouth. He has left scars on my bruiser and has even made him bleed. I believe this is just normal puppy behavior but I try to intervene when it gets to rough. I have started seperating them in their kennels for an hour at a time and giving them alone time with me, this also gives Ollie a chance to wind down. When I bring them both out I will sit on the floor with them and "referee", I do not allow Ollie to get to rough and if he starts biting on Bruiser to hard I seperate him. He is finally starting to understand that biting his brother gets him a time out and he doesn't like that to much. Just keep on him and she will grow out of it, my Kona did the same thing with him, it didn't last very long. Good Luck

It's pretty normal. My Juno literally looked like she had been in a dog fight after I let her play with some puppies, her neck was all scabbed up. I usually separate the dogs when I feel like the biting is just getting incessant (and Juno is pretty submissive and will just lay on her back and let them bite her)... because obviously I don't want her all cut up, and I don't want to run the risk of one of the cuts getting infected.

She's only 3 months old so I'd imagine he'll grow out of it, but in the mean time just try to keep up with it and separate them when it happens, and hopefully she'll start figuring out that playtime stops when she gets that rough.

When my lady was around 2 i was living with my friend who had a 3 month old and he ate my girl alive! Constantly chewing her ears (mainly) and her mussle too. she had little scars-i was freaking out! But he stopped after a while and hair grew over the little scars. And my baby is perfect again.

Be patient with your pup. She is only three months old, and believe it or not your older one is teaching her. All mine did the same thing. Right now your pup has a "puppy license". That means, your older one understands that she is little and is learning. As your pup gets older, your older one will get less tolerant. He will let the pup know when she is biting too hard by putting the pup in her place. I would not intervene, the pup will just think that it is the bigger dog when you step in to protect the other. Just let them work it out. I guarantee the older one can take care of himself, and when the license has run out, he will let her know it. He will teach her more than anyone, especially on biting.
