gas, hooooo boy!

cashisking

I can't help it, I'm sitting here at my desk, reading your posting and I'm laughing so hard. Tyson is sleeping under the desk, having such a bad gas, while he sleeps, he is killing me....
cashisking ....
I'm going to run to the store and get the yogurt, but Tyson's gas I believe is my fault, because I';m switching his diet too quickly and with too many new varieties.
I'm paying the price for my mistake, trust me I am....UhFff!

Thumbs up No more gas...yeah!

Hi,
I was reading your posts about our babies and "gas". Thank u all for the good advices...After a lot of reading I found out myself that it's really important to supervice what they eat and how much. The WDJ's list was very helpful. I found the right food brand at Petco and stopped switching back and forth with different kinds of foods. Tyson's gas has stopped soon after I made up my mind and stopped mixing up! ...if he/she having too much gas the 1st thing you might want to do is changing brand and diet. I finally think that Natural blend (approved by WDJ's list) is the way to go, u can find it at petco and do not need to spend extra $$$$ for mail order shipment. Again thank u for your support. I probably would have raised my boy on science diet and never known the difference....
a special thank YA'LL...

alicetooljam,
I too tried to search for "gas" but was told the search word must be at least 4 letters... I searched for gas remedies, gas solutions, gas problem, etc. and was able to find info, so you might want to try that.

Oh, and Scrapper'smom, I feed my girl Nutro large breed adult (she's 2 &1/2)...should I truely consider switching this? if so, what would you reccommend? Oh, and Layla does have pretty bad gas! Yikes, all day and night, luckily, they usually don't small that bad, we can just hear them! I guess I should count my blessings I will, however, be getting some plain yogurt next time I go to the store.

My breeder told me, (and I've seen it reinforced here on BW) that you shouldn't go for the "large" breed food, but stick with the "medium." It has to do with the growth and joint requirements of large breeds being different than that of doggies our babies' size. Does Nutro have a "medium" breed line? Or you could search on here for the Whole Dog Journal's list of top ten best kibbles - it comes out every year. If you do change, do it gradually, over a period of about 10 days, increasing the amount of the new kibble little by little until you are completely converted over.

BTW, when we first got Scrapper, I thought Boxers WERE large dogs, too, but after a few visits to the dog park, I saw that there are a lot of dogs that are really HUGE compared to a Boxer. Scrapper actually looks kind of small compared to some of those "monsters"

thanks for the info

Hi Scrapper's Mom,
Just wanted to say thanks so much for the heads up about the large breed food. I'm new to dog ownership and am really still unsure about what I'm doing. I'm soooo glad I found this list! After some research, I've decided to switch her over to Wellness Lamb. Many of the pet stores in my area carry it, so I won't have to mail order, woo hoo! Thanks again (Layla's health says thank you too )

*sigh* After even more research, I have decided to try Canidae instead. I had originally chose Wellness b/c I thought it was the only one I could get in the area, but when I went to the store that carried it, they had 7 of the top 10 brands from the Whole Dog Journal! My head started spinning! I had no idea what to do...so I spoke with the people who worked there for a while, then decided to come home "sans new food" and do some more research here on BW. The sheer quatity of threads & debates on the subject was mind-blowing! I finally had to tell myself to just pick one because there were as many opinions as to which one was best as there are users on this board! I finally settled on Canidae because there seemed to be an awful lot of posts about problems with loose & more frequent stools with Innova and Wellness, and Layla already has a problem with that. Sooooo.... hopefully I've made a good decision...I hope, I hope, I hope...
