I gave my pup a pork heart once and I thought it was a lot more gross than a bully stick. =P Maybe because they're greasier.

I have one for Charlie waiting for when he comes home....... trying not to think about what it is...lol. Actually it doesn't seem to have an odor to it.... so that is good! Has anyone has any problems with the bully stick? Also has anyone given their pup a deer antler? The sell them a a local raw dog food store...... just curious!!

Yep I started deer antlers here because my white boy is allergic to all beef (so no bully sticks for him or bones either). LOVE LOVE LOVE them, although they're pretty expensive. Cheapest I've found them is on Amazon.com for $8 and change for the 10-12 inch ones, it lasts 2-3 weeks but can still get pricey. Love them though they've been GREAT for him due to his allergies and my non allergic female Boxer and male GSD both love them too (by far my GSD's fav chew thing). Just make sure that they're not cleaned with chemicals and stuff.
On having issues with bully sticks we never have. My female Boxer gets them sometimes as does my male GSD and we've never had any issues with them whatsoever. Didn't have any issues with them with my allergy boy either aside from the issues he had being allergic to beef, but outside of that no issues at all and never had any issues with any of my fosters or pet sitting clients either.

I was thinking about trying the deer antlers too because of allergies as well as digestive reasons. I read that they don't splinter or expand...is that correct? Are they pretty easy on the digestive tract?
Funny story about the bully sticks...I was in the feed store with my 2 sons (9 and 10y/o) buying dog food and near the checkout is a box of HUGE bully sticks...like 3 feet long...each of my boys picks one out of the box and they start pretend sword fighting with them (I know this sounds obnoxious but it's a small family run shop and we were the only ones in there and we know the owners so they are more comfortable to be obnoxios, lol). I say, "If you knew what those were you wouldn't be playing with them." They both get a concerned look on their face and ask what they are. I tell them I'll tell them in the car and the owner just laughed and said she had the same conversaion with her sons. So, we get to the car and I tell them and they both say in unison..."Do you have any hand sanitizer!!!"

Correct they do not splinter and they're hard like a bone so no they do not expand. And yes they are easy on the digestive tract..at least that's my opinion. My dog has colitis and a bazillion food allergies (like he can eat only ONE food on the market and can't eat much else without SERIOUS stomach upset), but he can do antlers without any issues at all. They've been a life saver for us!

Antlers and raw meaty bones both are fine for dogs of any age.

How did you determine that he's allergic to beef?

Because every time he ate anything with beef in it he'd gets welts all over his head and face. Raw beef, cooked beef, beef bones or bully sticks. wasn't real hard on that one haha. Unfortunately he has multiple multiple severe food allergies. Since we stopped giving him anything having to do with beef he's been fine.
