Just switched from Kirkland to Canadai...

Hello Everyone,

Well, the first bag of puppy chow that I had ready for Kalel when he got home was Kirkland Puppy chow. We've had Kalel for 1 week, and he seems to have like the Kirkland stuff. However a funny thing happened...I started reading all of the rave reviews about Canadai. I went out last night and picked up a 5 lb bag to test the waters. I've been mixing the food with Kirkland to prep his stomach, and so far he loves it! Canadai is far more expensive than the Costco stuff, but after having the little guy a few nights I know it's worth the extra money!

Does everyone who's tried Canadai agree? Will you stick with it?

I'm not putting down Kirkland though, seems to be very high quality and if I ever need to, I'll have no problem switching back.

Talk soon,
Aj

I haven't tried this food. But I have to ask, are you a Superman/Smallville fan? The name Kalel caught my attention. My husband is a huge Smallville fan. :-)

Hi there,

My pup (almost 5 months old) is on Canidae All Life Stage and now I am in the process of switching him to Solid Gold Lamb and Rice for Puppy. He has very nice fur and everything is fine, in fact I am very happy with Canidae quality but he has loose stool. His stool is like ice-cream and I can never pick it up easily. That is all the complain I have about Canidae. I asked this forum and Henri's mom (the best ever advisor on this forum) suggested that I might have fed him to much since Canidae is very dense (the better quality the food, the less you need to feed the dog) so I tried much less amount but his poop was still very loose.

I have started him on Solid Gold today so I cannot tell you the result yet. I hope his stool will be harder. After reading and comparing the ingredient of both products, there are more grains in Solid Gold.

Talking about expensive food, we live in Singapore, a 40-pound bag of Canidae All Life Stage costs about 67 USdollars in Singapore. And the weirdest thing here is that the vet recommends Hill Science Diet, such a low quality food, nothing in there but byproduct. I believe Kirkland has much better quality than Hill Science Diet or Eukanuba or IAMs.

Well, I hope this helps you. I am so glad I have found this webpage to exchange the experience about our baby Boxer.

Good Luck!

I think the move to Canidae is a good one Well, it certainly is from a quality perspective - this is very much better stuff than Kirkland (which is nowhere near a premium food - not enough meat for that).

Hopefully Canidae is a food that your pup will do well on also

And you know, it may not actually be that much more expensive. The bag might cost more, but you're likely to be feeding rather less of it. And that can actually mean that the overall cost is actually much closer than it first appears (even lower, in some cases).

Hello OzzyBear,

I am not a fan of Smallville, but I LOVE Superman, and that is exactly why I named him Kalel. I even purchased a Superman symbol dog collar, with his name engraved on the back...He's so proud of it! Not to many people know the origin of the name, glad to know you do!

Hi gmacloud,

As always, thanks for the input. I feel a lot better with my decision after hearing from you!

Tianthai,

Good luck with the new food! This is a great forum to share experiences, hope to hear from you again!
