Give a dog a chance!

They sit and wait behind the bars.
They watch the people go by.
They cry, they bark, they try to say…
But no-one asks them why.

For some a week, for others a year,
They sit there all the time,
Until that day they’ve waited for when someone says.
Be mine!!

We ask ourselves why and how they are there,
We would never leave them that way,
But those people don’t care – they never have,
A dog to them is not to stay.

They get one for a present
Or steal one just to breed,
It lasts 6 months or so,
And then it’s back out on the street.

The puppies they don’t see their mom,
The parents – they’re heartbroken
They wish for a lfie to be left alone
A dream where they won’t be woken.

But life is hard and its not like that,
It’s a nightmare that’s made real,
Locked up all day in chains and cages,
Often left without a meal.

But now that life can change,
It’s time to make them live,
Show them what they have been missing
We have all got love to give.

So no matter what dog, type or colour
Or whether a girl or a boy,
Now it’s time to take it home,
With a bed, some food and a toy.

Give it love and get it back,
You can play for days on end,
You’ll realise in a while to come
Their heart has started to mend.

Don't forget all those dogs that are in the rescues - it won't be their fault that is guaranteed!

That is a great poem. I do know my next boxer will be from a rescue!!!
