If you're willing to spend some $$$ I have a Canon Power Shot G3. It's a fantastic camera that does alot of the same stuff my Minolta SLR does. Canon makes some less expensive digitals that are worth looking into also.

We have a Canon Powershot S230, 3.2 pixels. It's so small you can carry it in your pocket, and it takes great pics as well as movies. We are completely happy with it - which is saying something as my DH is a total camera nut

I have a NIKON coolpix800and its good, but I'm having problems with it(the shutter) after 3-4 years.. I purchased a canon powershot A60, (older), the quality of the photos is better than the Nikon..

For the money there is no better digital camera than the kodak easyshare dx6490. 4 MP with video and sound. Excellent pictures and easy to use all for under $400 dollars.

F707
These are made anymore, but if you dont' mind buying used they can be found for very reasonable prices.
The sony DSC-F707. Five megapixels, 5x optical zoom, and a host of other features. Produces VERY nice pictures.

i LOVE my kodak easyshare. I have the 3.1mp model (6340?) anyway, it depends on how often you are going to use the thing. I just took a fabulous picture of my daughter and her twin cousins and i took it in to be developed into an 8 x 10 and you would have thought it was from a studio. No dots or streaks, it was PERFECT! The guy at the lab even commented and was completely blown away that it was only a 3.1mp
I paid $300 for mine, but they're down to $250 now i think!

The best for what use? If you are looking for a tiny point-and-shoot camera, a SLR would be too heavy and bulky, if you are into wildlife, you might want a camera with a long zoom etc
At http://www.steves-digicams.com/best_cameras.html you can find the best cameras according to that site.

I have the Kodack Easyshare and I love it for everyday stuff. I do also have the Canon Digital Rebel SLR. I have had it for about a month. Its very $$$$ but if you have a normal Rebel with other lenses ( i have invested lots of money in to other lenses) then this is the way to go.

We also have the Canon G3 and we are very happy with it, but I personally think it's more camera (and thus more expensive) than we really needed...but hubby really wanted it. We also did a lot of research to get a camera for my sister and settled on the A70 - not quite as many features as the G3, but compact and easy to use. That's a great point and shoot camera.

Mine is...
The Olympus C-5000. It has 5.0 Megapixel and lots of features. I have a 265MB memory card which came separate. It will hold about 4 or 5 rolls of film. The memory card was over $100 all by itself!!! But Film is expensive too.
My aunt is a pro and her advice when I was shopping was buy a camera that is made by a camera maker...not a computer maker. Also go for the most Megapixels that you can afford.
Good Luck with your purchase. We looked for a long time before we got ours
but it was worth it.
