Scanning Old Photographs

I came across boxes of old photographs and I would love to scan them into my laptop so I have a record of those memories should something happen to the original photos. My question is, does anyone know of any software or equipment that would make archiving these photos easier? I started to scan some of the photos and realized how time consuming it is. Hopefully someone can send some tips my way to make the whole process a bit less strenuous. I have a MacBook in case that matters. Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately it is always going to be time consuming if you want to scan them well. Also, a scanner dedicated to photos/slides can be very expensive. Some flatbed scanners do a good job but they are no where near the real photo scanners like the Coolscan 9000 etc
Do you have the film strip? Some scanners can scan multiple frames from a film strip.
If time is an issue, the best is to ask a photo store to scan them for you
