Opinions on Canon Rebel
Is anyone on BW farmiliar with the Canon Rebel? DH is REALLY wanting to get one based on a co-workers recommendation. As it's quite a large purchase, I'm wanting to make sure we are getting the best camera for it's price range. Does anyone have any advise or opinions? Anything you can tell me is appreciated! In the past, we haven't managed to find a quality camera in any of our purchases. The photos always came out blurry and had low color quality. If the picture was in motion.... (forget it!). I am really wanting to make sure our next camera is QUALITY! Pictures are irreplaceable. Thanks in advance for any input you can give me.

If you are talking about a digital Rebel, like the XT, XTi, etc., I think it's a great purchase. Last summer BF and I went on vacation with his family to the beach, and I spent the entire week playing with his SIL's new Rebel XTi, which is actually a step down from my Canon 40D, but the kit lens on the Rebel is wider than either of my lenses, so I had a blast taking landscape pictures and goofy close-up shots of the kids. I was very impressed with the quality of the images, and I loved how lightweight it was (compared to mine, at least!). My SIL uses the auto setting and gets great results without having to know much about the mechanics of it all.
Here are some photos of our beach vacation; about 90% of these were taken with the Rebel XTi with 18-55mm kit lens. Keep in mind that all of these images have been processed to my liking (and my computer monitor)

If you are looking for an older model like the XT or XTi, you can probably find one on craigslist for a good price. I see them in the classifieds there all the time.

Nowadays all SLRs are good, the photos mostly depend on the photographer, the lenses used and of course the subjects but you can't go wrong with boxers
I still have the Canon 350D (XT in the USA) and a 30D and they are fine cameras. I use Nikon cameras more now but it is because I have more Nikon lenses.
I only use the Canon for getting photos of small birds because of a Canon 300f4 lens that works so well with its 1.4x converter
The best is to go to a camera store and to see them: ergonomics, size and quality of lcd, handling etc are important. Per example my mother does not like the Canon XT, she finds the little Nikon D40 more user friendly. For other people, it is the opposite.
Nice photos Zoë

As far as being user-friendly, I stick with Canon just because that's what I'm used to. It was a breeze to find all the controls on the XTi since I own an SLR and a point & shoot made by Canon. Over the holidays I picked up a relative's new Nikon D40 to take a few play-shots, but after surfing through the menu a few times I gave up! All of the settings I had in my mind that were on the Canon, I couldn't find on the Nikon (not quickly enough to keep my attention, at least). So if you happen to already be familiar with either one of those names (or a different one), that might be what you decide to go with. Whatever you decide on, just spend some time playing around and getting to know all the features.

Thanks for all your input. Very helpful! I think I am going to check them out at a camera store... and then see if I can find it on Craigslist once I figure out which one I want. Thanks again!

Another thing to do is to look for lenses (reviews, prices) because you will keep the lenses for a very long time while you might upgrade your camera more often. Also lenses often cost a lot more than the body.

Thanks! I would not have looked at that until now. (Thus, why I spend too much money on cheap cameras that don't take worthy pictures)! I REALLY appreciate your help!

Just to make things more complicate

It looks nice Even in the case you do not choose it, it will probably help to lower the prices of the current cameras which is always welcome

I have the Canon EOS 40D - and LOVE it. Not sure if that helps you at all though.
