Thumbs up First Show Puppy

We have had a hard time finding a quality show puppy we have had pets for a long time.. We are super excited but brand new.... One of the Co-Owners of the litter said that the sire is popular his name is "Capris woods end spellcaster" sired by "woods end crown sable" anyone heard of either of these sires? It doesnt matter only she said they were pretty well heard of so I wanted to see if anyone had comments about them good or bad...

Loki...Yes, quite popular. I don't have exact numbers, but he's one of the top ranked Boxers. A search on his name will give you lots of info.

Here he is winning an award of merit at nationals this past May: http://www.americanboxerclub.org/2005-aom2.html

But my fave photo of him is posted on infodog: http://www.infodog.com/my/dogpage.htm?akc=WR%2001485605

Congrats on the new puppy!

Edit: You can see the top 25 dogs in each breed here: http://www.akc.org/invitational/top2..._year=2006_jan Looks like Loki placed in the top 10 for the 3 yrs that are available.

Congratulations on the new puppy! First show puppy too! That is great!

Yes, I have heard of them - saw Loki at ABC this year for the first time. He and his handler are very flashy in the ring.

A dog that is being specialed is a Ch that is being shown at the Best of Breed and up level. Although, Loki would be described as being campaigned. Campaigned means the dog is heavily specialed...competes at the breed level and up pretty much weekly. Compaigning is also a way to advertise.

This page is quite informative on dog shows and terms:

ROFL!

And, as is the case with Loki, campaigning also *includes* lots of advertising. (Primarily in all-breed publications, as the target audience are the judges.)

Unhappy

ok I know this may sound super stupid but what does this mean.. advertise for what? since he is at stud? Or to the judges so that handler can get in good graces with the judges? For the kennel name?

Yes.

Campaigning a dog as a form of advertising itself is mostly about stud service (for a male) or for the kennel/breeder (for a female). Actual advertisements in all-breed magazines are geared more toward judges - a subliminal kind of thing, hoping the judge will recognize the dog when they see it, and subconsciously think "I've seen ads saying that dog has done a lot of winning, so I should probably give him the award". Actual advertisements in breed-specific magazines are generally a combination of stud/kennel and judge advertising, as well as a simple spot to brag about your dog's accomplishments to other Boxer folk.
