Hybrids

Our pup is a boxer/beagle mix. He looks a lot more like the boxer in him, but is a little smaller that boxers usually are. He still has the long legs and huge chest, he's just little. On one website, they call him a "bogle", and say that he is recognized by the AKC. Is this true?

NO, They are NOT recognized by the AKC, no mix is. What a boxer/beagle mix is just that..a mix (aka mutt). Perhaps the mother/father who was the Boxer is a pure bred Boxer and the other is a pure bred Beagle and THEY are recognized by the AKC but any offspring would not be.

Puggles, bogels, anything-doodle are the designer dogs that pet stores are getting more money for than most great breeders are getting for their purebred dogs. You can find tons and tons of mixes in any local pound/shelter.

Please don't think I am bashing you or your cutie (is that him in your avatar..if so he is a cutie patootie), thats not my intention. But the whole "designer doggie" thing hits a nerve with me when there are so many mixes in the pound for free and people are spending crazy amounts of money for a mix.

designer dogs

Actually, Tyson isn't a designer dog. Or, he wasn't sold to us under that name. He was picked up off of the side of the road and our vet told us that he was a boxer/beagle mix. I don't really buy into the whole designer dog thing either. However, neither one of us has had a dog so we were just looking for a place to post questions and get some good feedback. He's definitly got the boxer attitude though-he loves to play!

I was referring to the comment about the website that said they were recognized by the AKC

I kind of thought that you had adopted him and not bought him. This is a great place to get info, post questions and answer questions. Tyson is more than welcome here..full Boxer, 1/2 Boxer, 1/4 boxer..its all good

its funny, most Boxer-mixes tend to take the traits of Boxers

Sorry for the rudeness... I'm sure he is wonderful. The people here are (usually) friendly and the info is great too. Welcome to BW! From Xan, Bai and me

Who was rude? I wasn't trying to be rude, just stating fact. The AKC does not recognize mixed breeds. (I dont read any rudeness in sidhewlf's post either)

I certainly was not unfriendly, as a matter of fact I welcomed Tyson's Mom and encouraged her to post, read, and answer questions.

I think you misread what she was saying. SHE wasn't calling him a "Bogle". She said she had a Boxer/Beagle mix. She said she saw one website that called a Boxer/Beagle mix a Bogle. Surely it was on of those wonderful "breeders" who are jumping the bandwagon with the "doodle" breeders

I didn't think anyone was being rude..I just wanted everyone to know Tyson's story. He's such a great puppy and he was just dropped on the side of the road. We got him when he was 8 weeks old, so who knows where he had been. People can be so heartless. Anyway, I don't call him a "bogle" because, a) it sounds dumb, and b) he's so much more like a boxer and I love that about him! I just say he's boxer and leave it at that. Thanks ya'll for the feedback! Please leave more if you have any. As I said, we've never had dogs, so we need all the help we cand get!

Wink

Thanks for sharing your story & giving him a wonderful home! So many people are breeding anything & giving them fancy names just for money & I mean BIG BUCKS! People that don't know any better really think they have bought a hybrid dog & in all reality its just a mixed breed dog, that they could have gone anywhere to get one. I call them Greeders, not breeders. They are taking advantage of the people & dogs, just to make a dollar! Thats why its a sore subject.

We think this is Laila's mix too... (We didn't buy her as a designer either, just from a shady breeder who claimed to be selling full-breed boxers) Have a look at the pics in our gallery....

Like Tyson, Laila is small for a boxer. At 2 years old she's just 41 pounds. She has the face of a beagle, with the markings and body-shape of a boxer. Her personality is 100% boxer and lucky for us that's the #1 thing we were looking for when we got her.

I look forward to seeing more pics of your boy. Thanks SOOO much for giving him a home!
