Cool Weight Pulling

Hello everyone,
My name is Jason and I am a new member to Boxer World. I own two wonderfull fawn Boxers. I have been trying to find something for me and my male to do together, and out of all the doggie sports out there Weight Pulling has peaked my interest the most, so far all of my reshearch has shown me that this sport has few to none Boxer athletes. I feel that the Boxer would be perfect for this type of sport. Is there anyone out there that can point me in the right direction, so that we can start learning, training, maybe create a Weight Pulling Boxer Club and bringing new titles to the Boxer. Thank you for your help.

Jay

you have to post your introduction in the introductions forum as per the BW rules. Also this post is in the wrong forum. This forum is to show pictures of your dog, or post links to pictures of your dog. You should post this post in the Sports forum

Good note. Sounds fun. You may want to copy and paste it, if possible, into the sports forum so that you get more feedback.

I thought pit pulls were involved with that. I also always assumed it was illegal because it looks terribly cruel. I hope you don't make your poor boxer do that! That is why you probably don't see them in it, they have plenty of other possible jobs like agility not forcing them to pull weight for the fun of it! Please rethink your decision!!!!!

Apparently I am unfamiliar with the Weight Pulling Sport. I hadn't thought that it would probably be similar to Horse Pulls. Wow, those are hard to watch. It may be a good way to redirect a Pit Bulls competative and aggressive behavior, but a Boxer? ...Yep, I have to agree with Abby's Mom, I don't think my Bridget would think it was all that fun. I'm more into what my dog enjoys and what is healthy for her....But, if it's an outdoor run/jump/catch/or just chase the ball sport....Bridget would love that.

After doing some research, yes, it is very much the same as horse pulls. I can't imagine that it would be much fun for any animal to have to do something like that. Baxter and I will stick to the stuff that he finds enjoyment in. Just seems too cruel to me.

This is a sport/training mechinism for sled dogs. Dogs who were bred for this explicit purpose.

Of all the activities that boxers excel in, why would you choose something that could be harmful to his health like pulling excessive weight that his body wasn't designed to do? I'd talk to a vet, research boxer physiology and find more than one boxer expert who thinks it's a good idea before taking the first step.

Try agility or another sport that stimulates their minds. Boxers crave mental stimulation.

Thumbs up

I am defiantly interested in Weight Pulling. Toten and I just started his Weight Training yesterday, he seems to like it. He got all excited this morning when he seen me grab the weights. I am going to get him a good pull harness with in two weeks. Right now we are just getting him used to the idea of pulling stuff and getting the commands down. I think is it a good idea and I am interested in starting a Weight Pulling Boxer Club. Feel free to contact me.

If you had read the rules, you would know that there is no way of contacting one another on this board. As for weight pulling and clubs, everyone is free to do as they wish within the law but I cannot see a club for boxers in weight pulling because anyone that knows this breed and reputable breeders would not allow there boxers to be involved with such a "sport".

When I signed up it asked if I would allow E-mails from forum members. So I Thought we was allowed, o well. Hold those rules tight.

Well aren’t you just full of opinions.
That is just the kind of stuff to encourage me to get one going.

I don’t think “reputable breeders” can control what happens after they sell the dog.
