Thumbs up Tango is coming right along!

I was working with Tango last night on her Sch obedience stuff and I decided to spend most of the time working on her finish. She finally started doing the finish without any hand movement from me (she did it on just the voice command)!! I was so excited. Its always so cool when they finally figure out exactly what you want them to do and how you want them to do it. She's getting closer to the age where I will be able to use a corrections collar and I think things will progress even faster then. Unfortunately Im kinda at a sticking place because the rest of the obedience stuff realy requires a correction collar to do correctly. She' only about 5 months old and will sit, down, somewhat of a long down (almost up to a minute), stand with a hand movement, finish, heel off leash and release the ball on command about 1/4 of the time. I'm so proud of her and she is coming along nicely. Ill keep yall updated!

Hi there

It seems to me that Tango might no need a correction collar. I never needed one with Gina ... it certainly is possible to train without one and I believe that in most cases correction collars should not be used due to tissue damage in the neck.

I have trained by the inducement method ... gina does something for me .. and I do something for her .... it's a trusted deal and one that is very strong in motivation.

Hope it helps and I wish you and Tango continued success.

I dont think I will have to use it very often but for her to be competitive in Schutzund she is going to have to be 100% reliable in all her obedience even with all the distractions of a trial. The main thing it will be used for is to keep her attention and when she understands that obeying the command is not optional I think I wont have to use it very much. Right now all of her training is "inducement" as you called it because she is so young. I wont be using any type of corrections for a few months to come because of the possibility of damaging her neck as such a young age.
