Skijoring

Just wondering if anyone has/heard of doing skijoring with a boxer? I was googling at lunch today and came across a skijoring site, and there was a woman there who does it with both her boxers. A friend at work used to do it with her GSD, both with a sled and with skies.

I was thinking that it may be something interesting to try out when Stella is an adult. Figure around 2-3 years old. I am starting obedience with her in 1 week or so, and will follow through all the levels of that and eventually try agility when she is old enough, and though that skijoring could be a fun winter activity to do then.

So, what do you think of it?

DBF Steve wants to skijor with Oscar. He bought the equipment and started to run with Oscar, using the harness and belt. Oscar LOVES it. Steve also started working on his skiing, and ended up hurting his back, so no more skiing for a while. We watched the start and finish of the local skijor race and now he is even more determined to participate next year. I will say that the sight of all those teams running the course was inspiring, and if he doesn't ski it next year, maybe I will.

I would suggest that you work on your skiing so that once you harness up your dog, you will only need to focus on coordinating your movements, not practicing your skiing.

haha, I never thought about my own skiing skills I do down-hill ski, but never cross country, and I know they are two very different things. Glad to hear though that someone else is doing it with their boxer. Keep us up to date on your progress!
