Fish oil and other breeds?

My lil brother just adopted a 6 mo old english bull dog names Dozer and he is shedding pretty bad. I advised him that it could be a combination of a life change, food change, etc. He has taken him to the vet for a full check up and is healthy. I was telling him how I give Joey (boxer) fish oil along with vitamin e and thought he should try the same with Dozer. Surely this is ok isnt it? given he give the correct amount for his weight. I dont mean to ask a dumb question but.......do different breeds react/benifit just the same to the fish oil? Does anyone else give fish oil to other types of animals such as cats (or anything else).
