Found a dog in the middle of an interstate
Now I don't know what to do with it! I think she either had puppies recently or is pregnant! I really can't keep her. Any Oklahoma BW buddies want a VERY sweet pit/lab mix. She's a doll.

Thank you for rescuing her!! Is there a humane society or no-kill shelter in your area where you can take her? Perhaps her people are looking for her. I hope that is the case, and that she can be reunited with them.

id take her to a near by no kill shelter or your vet..ive taken 4 dogs out of situations like this and two were lost and happy mom and dads showed up at the shelter to get them( they called to tell me) shelters will check for a chip and see if she is registered and hopefully has a family searching, especially if she is still nursing her pups will need her, good luck and you did a great thing for her.

Sorry the first message was so short but I was in the middle of doing exactly what you guys had suggested. Unfortunately (but not unexpected) every no-kill shelter I called nearly laughed when I asked if they had room for her. As of now, she is still at my house. I made an appointment with a vet for tomorrow to check for a chip, find out the deal on the possible puppies/pregnancy, and for an overall checkup.
She's the sweetest dog but SO nervous. She will just stay right by my side whether we are inside or outside, which is sad because it makes me think that she had to be dumped, as I don't see her just running off. I haven't heard her growl or seen her snap even though she is as scared as she is. I even held her down to pull ticks off of her, gave her a bath, lifted her into the car, AND trimmed her nails and she never even acted aggressive. I play softball and took her to the ball fields tonight to get the word out that I have found her and possibly start looking for homes. She let everyone pet her, including kids, even though she was frozen with fear.
My next step is to call the shelters and see if anyone has reported a missing dog, call local vets, and post some ads in a couple papers. It's just a sad scenario though. The number of dead dogs I've seen on the side of the road has increased 10 fold because of all the Fourth of July festivties. I guess everyone thinks now is the best time to dump an animal? Terrible. Thank you guys so very much for the support, I hope everything goes well tomorrow at the vet. I'll keep you posted.
By the way, we've been calling her Ebie and here are some pictures.

She is a cutie!
I don't really see any pit in her and you might take that part of the "mix" out of the equation, especially if you are trying to find a new home for her.
That being said she doesn't look like she had been homeless for very long. Getting dirty and having ticks doesn't really speak too much of how long she has been out roaming the streets.
Try putting a sign in YOUR yard about having found her....as well as on heavily traveled streets etc....
If you have a local Craig's List online you can post something there as well as look for posts about a lost dog.
I'm sure someone is missing that sweet face!
Good Luck!

Poor girl and thanks for rescueing her from a fate worse than we can imagine.
First thing I would do is call all the shelters and humane leagues just to let them know you found her in case someone calls them looking.
Second is to go to the vet and have her checked for a chip.
Third, as Cami posted, craigslist is a great place to post a found pet as is the local paper (most ads are free for lost or found pets).
Make sure though that you don't describe her completely. Leave out one recognizable feature that only the owner would know of. You want the real owner to come for her, not someone who doesn't have her best interest at heart.
I'm so happy that you are willing to keep her until her owners are found. As shy as she is, a shelter would be the worst place for her.
I sure hope the owners come forward. But in this economy, there are more and more "dumped" pets emerging and filling these shelters with really great family pets! And with shelters being so full lately, euthanasia is really becoming rampant to make more room.

Her eyes and ears look a little pitty to me.
Well we went to the vet and he agreed that she probably had a home but he thinks she was dumped. He ran a pannel to test for tick diseases and that was negative, she is in heat but he thinks she's only around 9 months old so he thinks it's probably her first cycle so if she is pregnant, she should only be about a week a long so we could still get her spayed.....she has whip worms....and heatworms. ::sigh::
Here's the deal with the heartworm, the vet said he'd never seen this before; she has the adult worms but they are still young enough that they haven't reproduced so she has no baby worms in her blood stream. The vet thinks that it would be fairly easy to treat and since he does a lot of shelter work he's willing to give us a discount. However, he wants to be sure that if she does end up being treated for the discounted amount that she gets a good home....i.e. if we treat her for cheaper, we have to keep her. So...after some thought it looks like we may have a new dog. ...
